This includes but is not limited to physical and leisure activities, organized sports, games, non-physical activities, social activities, music, fine arts and crafts. Qualifying Requirements:
Your City of Pittsburgh application will be reviewed and your work experience and education/training will be evaluated to determine if you meet the qualifying eligibility requirements listed below for this position. You will be sent an eligibility letter regarding your eligible/ineligible status.
- WORK EXPERIENCE: The application must clearly show two (2) years of full-time experience in planning or organizing recreational programs, which includes six months of experience supervising the work of others. (Full-time is defined as 32 hours or more per week. Less than full-time experience will be calculated on a pro-rated basis.)
- EDUCATION/TRAINING: The application must clearly show a Bachelor's Degree from a fully accredited institution in Recreation, Community Recreation, Leisure Studies or a related field. (See NOTE under the General Application Requirements Section above regarding the verification of education/training).
- EQUIVALENCY: Education/training and/or work experience may be substituted on a year for year basis if the application clearly shows the required number of years to meet the Total Qualifying Requirement for this position (based on the sum of work experience and education/training listed above). - Recommends, plans, develops, promotes, implements, schedules, staffs, promotes, participates and evaluates/modifies approved recreation center activities, such as physical, leisure and non-physical activities. Including but not limited to, organized sports, games, special events, social activities, open houses, music, concerts, field trips, festivals, fine arts and crafts to meet the needs of our constituency within the City, the Recreation/Community Center and Park Facilities.
- Maximizes the utilization of the City's Community Recreation facilities and resources that will allow for opportunities for program growth and membership development.
- Supervises assigned personnel; evaluates work; recommends and implements approved disciplinary and/or corrective action; provides training and/or technical assistance. Oversees assigned recreation facility and operations, including safety and health violations, daily janitorial and maintenance and City/County code requirements.
- Reports all accidental injuries occurring at recreation center in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Meets with and acts as a liaison with community organizations regarding approved programs and/or events; works with community schools, interest groups and sponsors to develop programs that result in stronger community development and networks.
- Incorporates community issues, concerns, needs, physical and human resources while implementing the department's plan.
- Develops, recommends and implements approved facility operating budget; monitors program revenue and expenditures.
- Develops, implements and evaluates approved special events/programs including open houses, festivals, exhibits, concerts, field trips, etc.
- Conducts and/or participates in training programs, including CPR, AED, First Aid and ServSafe Food certifications/certificates.
- Ensures that work is performed in accordance with established City, County, state and/or federal laws, rules and regulations.
- Maintains records and prepares accurate reports, correspondence, etc., relevant to the ongoing measurement and analysis of data necessary for the operation of programs, classes, special events, facilities and services.
- Requisitions needed equipment and reports property damage and/or maintenance problems in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Ability to administer cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and first aid to victims in distress as needed. Works weekends, evenings and holidays, as might be required.
- Role model to all staff for excellence in customer service.
- Plans, develops, directs, coordinates, organizes and controls the materials, equipment and personnel under jurisdiction toward the effective, efficient and economical attainment of program goals, including maximum convenience to the public and safety of employees.
