Organization:
The Yolo Crisis Nursery is a nonprofit organization that works to keep children safe and their families healthy and whole by offering trauma-informed care and wraparound services to families in crisis.
We offer voluntary and free, nurturing crisis and respite childcare for children ages birth through five years, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Equally important are our wraparound services that help parents resolve the problems that brought them to our door. Our mission is to nurture healthy and resilient children, strengthen parents, and preserve families.
Goals and Objectives of the Position:
- Assist in the development and execution of all marketing strategies to consistently articulate the mission of the Yolo Crisis Nursery, attract philanthropic support and reach out to potential clients for Nursery programs.
- Develop communications plan and execution of fundraising campaigns, including traditional as well as virtual (Big Day of Giving, Giving Tuesday, Child Abuse Prevention month and others) with Director of Development and ED.
- Assist in the production of special fund-raising and donor appreciation events including marketing, ticketing, registration and other functions as needed.
Specific Responsibilities of the Position:
Under the direction of the Executive Director and in collaboration with the Director of Development and the Board of Directors:
- Serve as “keeper of the brand,” for the Nursery, ensuring that all Nursery communications are consistent, both stylistically and in content/key messages.
- Develop all print and electronic materials including, but not limited to, press releases, social media, brochures, fliers, annual reports, e-newsletters, videos, signage and advertisements: write text, take photographs or otherwise secure them; design products, arrange for printing or production plus distribution.
- Write a monthly column for the Davis Enterprise newspaper and arrange for a photograph to accompany it. Post copies online and revise/distribute as a press release for other media.
- Prepare press releases, campaign materials and other quality communication pieces in a professional manner.
- Collaborate on the development of fundraising campaigns. This includes creation and distribution of all fund-raising marketing materials.
- Maintain supply of letterhead/envelopes, notecards/envelopes, business cards, magnets, T-shirts and other branded materials.
- Work with the Friends of the Yolo Crisis Nursery fund-raising group regarding their communications needs. Attend occasional monthly meetings (as relevant to the event marketing and registration) and provide planning and logistical support for the Friends’ fundraising events, as needed.
- Assist Executive Director in the development of the budget for Marketing/Communications; monitor all expenses and keep spending within budget.
- Participate in team meetings to provide updates and scope of upcoming projects and events with marketing and strategy focus.
- Convene and chair monthly, or as needed, Marketing/Communications Committee meetings consisting of Executive Director, Director of Development and develop editorial calendar.
- Perform other duties as required to meet the needs of our clients, our employees and the Crisis Nursery as a whole.
- 3 Saturday events per year and occasional evening events/meetings to attend.
- Remote with the likelihood of going on-site in Quarter 2 of 2025
Desired Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing or related discipline and/or equivalent experience.
- Expert writing skills, with emphasis on easy-to-read “marketing” language.
- Adept at creating and sharing compelling stories, demonstrating sound judgment and respect for client confidentiality.
- Highly developed verbal and interpersonal communications skills.
- Strategic planning, critical thinking, analytical problem-solving and marketing and audience-engagement skills.
- Collaborative style; experience developing and implementing communications strategies.
- Graphic design skills using Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Proficiency with Wordpress websites, including ability to perform all routine maintenance, website updates and search engine optimization.
- Proficiency with the current major social media platforms; interest in embracing new platforms and approaches as they emerge.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $83,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
