For over 75 years, the Boys and Girls Clubs of San Leandro has been a cornerstone of the San Leandro and greater East Bay community. We provide a range of programs, including after school programming, school break day camps, and summer camps, to youth ages 4-18 years old. Primary Function:
Reporting to the CEO, the Director of Marketing and Communications (DMC) will spearhead Boys & Girls Clubs of San Leandro's Marketing and Communications strategic initiatives. To support the organization's projected growth from $12M to $21M, the DMC will develop the organization's Marketing and Communications strategy internally and externally, implement operational infrastructure and processes, and formulate plans for departmental growth and hiring. In this role, the DMC will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including executive leaders, club program directors, regional and national partners to drive business objectives, increase brand awareness, raise revenue, and improve youth outcomes.
Boys & Girls Clubs of San Leandro seeks candidates who are both creative and analytical, possessing extensive knowledge across an array of disciplines and platforms in Marketing and Communications. The DMC will promote Boys & Girls Clubs of San Leandro to all internal and external stakeholders, including employees, students, families,
philanthropists, school districts, community groups, corporate partners, and media outlets.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Vision & Strategy

  • Set visionary direction for Marketing and Communications strategies aligned with the organization's business objectives and programmatic needs, grounded in data, best practices, and key performance indicators;
  • Develop and implement Marketing and Communications initiatives aimed at increasing demand for Boys & Girls Clubs of San Leandro, including enhancing brand identity, raising awareness of programs, and sharing impactful stories;
  • Strategic partner to all internal stakeholders (HR, Programs, Resource Development, etc.) in the development and implementation of standardized communication strategy and matrix;
  • Collaborate with the fundraising and program departments to maximize audience engagement and enhance the effectiveness of stewardship and recruitment campaigns, optimizing reach and conversion rates;
  • Define Key Performance Indicators and track the success of Marketing and Communications tactics, including website traffic, conversion rates, social media engagement, email open and click-through rates, and campaign ROI.

Management & Administration
  • Lead the Marketing and Communications department's strategic planning process, including annual budgeting and departmental staffing plan;
  • Recruit, hire, and manage department staff and supporting consultants;
  • Oversee direct report work plans to ensure Marketing and communication strategies are executed with excellence;
  • Approve and manage contracts with vendors, including consultants, design firms, graphic designers, website developers, video producers, photographers, printers, and merchandise vendors;
  • Proactively establish and maintain effective working relationships with all departments and clubs across the organization and external partners;
  • Fulfill all manager responsibilities related to performance management, including conducting performance reviews and talent surveys.

Marketing:
  • Lead a digital marketing strategy and implement a comprehensive plan inclusive of website, email, and social media marketing;
  • Project manage and oversee the production of branded resources, promotional collateral materials, video/photography assets, merchandise, and swag;
  • Develop an event toolkit for program and philanthropic events, promoting brand consistency across clubs; lead the Marketing and Communications strategy for keystone events;
  • Partner with the Chief Programs Officer and program directors to pilot advertising campaigns geared towards students and families: identify marketing mediums, manage budget and vendors, lead artwork development, and measure and analyze results;
  • Create brand resources, encompassing templates, photography, and other visual assets, while spearheading staff training sessions to uphold brand consistency;
  • Develop branded resources and lead staff training to ensure adherence to brand guidelines and consistent use of brand resources across departments and locations.

Communications:
  • Direct the creation of a unified messaging strategy in line with national brand guidelines, shaping all Marketing and communication channels, including web, social media, ads, press, newsletters, and print materials;
  • Strategically manage and synchronize social media and departmental calendars to ensure consistent and effective messaging across all platforms;
  • Develop and implement internal and external communications plans, including crisis communications strategy to ensure important, consistent, and timely information is conveyed across the organization and to our key stakeholders;
  • Develop and maintain best-in-class external communications channels including, but not limited to, marketing collateral, website content, social media, newsletters, media outreach, and email campaigns;
  • Orchestrate marketing campaigns across multiple channels, including email, social media, and direct mail; develop segmented targeting to increase engagement rates and conversions;
  • Cultivate and leverage strong media relationships to enhance visibility and positively position the organization across various media outlets; adept at crafting compelling narratives and managing outreach to ensure messages are effectively communicated to the public;
  • Serve as the communications thought partner for the organization's leaders, project owners, and teammates.

Requirements
Skills & Experience Required:
  • 7+ years of Marketing, brand strategy, and Communications experience, with a proven track record of adapting messaging to suit a diverse range of genres and key stakeholders, including donors, parents, and alumni. Demonstrated ability to understand and leverage the unique communication styles and strategies that resonate with each group to foster engagement and support;
  • Strong written, oral, and interpersonal skills with a passion for community engagement and youth development, capable of inspiring action and support through compelling narratives and presentations;
  • Expertise in digital marketing, social media campaigns, and analytics, with the ability to measure and report on the effectiveness of various strategies and campaigns;
  • Proven management and team leadership experience, with a focus on building cohesive teams and fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement;
  • Superior project management skills and attention to detail, ensuring that all communications and marketing efforts are executed flawlessly and on schedule;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across levels of an organization/community, acting as a liaison between the organization and its stakeholders to enhance collaboration and mutual understanding;
  • High level of self-awareness, humility, and emotional intelligence; skilled at giving and receiving constructive feedback to and from direct reports and peers, facilitating a positive working environment and personal growth;
  • Exceptional presentation skills, including the ability to design and deliver engaging presentations using PowerPoint and other marketing/communications tools, effectively communicating complex ideas to diverse audiences;
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred, with a focus on marketing, communications, public relations, or a related field.

Salary Description
$120,000-$168,000
