We are seeking a Director of Business Development with similar values, who can put his or her expertise to work. In this role, you will report to the Vice President of Sales & Marketing for Duininck. The Director of Business Development will play a crucial role in driving the growth of our company by overseeing the commercial Business Development strategy and ensuring consistent achievement of marketing and sales targets.
To be successful in this role, it is critical for the individual to have strength in strategic thinking to achieve organizational goals, as well as assuming the responsibility for overall Business Development. The Director of Business Development will collaborate across the organization; including with Area Sales Managers, Project Managers and the Director of Commercial Operations to support the organization’s mission, vision, values, goals, and key metrics by developing and implementing an innovative sales and marketing strategy that grows the business, drives project delivery, enhances customer experience, builds community engagement, and fosters our culture.
Essential responsibilities:
- Develop strategic business plans and define sales strategies that align with overall business objectives to drive growth.
- Drive new business opportunities through direct efforts such as collaboration with others, networking and forging strong business relationships focused on building a pipeline of new and existing business.
- Lead the development of the Area Sales Team budget and make recommendations on refinement.
- Assist in the development of the Aggregate Sales Pricing Strategy.
- Develop and manage short and long-term plans that translate business goals into operational objectives for Operations and Sales teams.
- Review and collaborate on project schedules with the Director of Commercial Operations, Project Managers and Estimators ensuring project delivery, quality, safety, compliance, efficiency and overall customer satisfaction.
- Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture, encouraging teamwork and professional growth among team members.
- Mentor, onboard and support the development of the sales team, providing strong leadership and guidance.
- Partner with our creative marketing agency for the strategic support and creation of content to assist in driving Business Development.
- Develop, implement, and manage strategies that drive an enhanced customer experience.
- Other duties and special projects as assigned.
Skills necessary for success in this role:
- Demonstrated experience in Heavy Highway and Heavy Civil Construction is preferred.
- Must be a strong team player, able to work effectively with a variety of people, personalities, skills, and organizational levels.
- Experience in developing, leading, and managing a team and being an active participant in collaborative decision making.
- Experience establishing and developing long-term client relationships is a necessity.
- Strong understanding of planning, consulting, design, and construction of the commercial market segment.
- Excellent presentation and negotiation skills, proven track record of successfully pitching for new business.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in a Construction or Business-related field or equivalent experience is preferred.
- A minimum of ten years of experience in a leadership capacity, with broad comprehensive knowledge of heavy highway and heavy civil construction practices.
- Experience in working with senior leadership to align sales strategies and solutions. Proven track record of increasing revenue through generation of leads.
- Innovative individual who employs entrepreneurial characteristics, a problem solver with strong business acumen.
- Must be result driven and autonomous.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Strong negotiation skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to apply strategic thinking to business issues and achieve results.
- An unwavering focus on safety.
- Willingness to travel throughout Central and Western Minnesota, Northern Iowa and the Eastern Dakotas.
