*This is a Remote position that would need to report into our Roswell, GA headquarters one day a month*
Responsibilities include overseeing general accounting functions, including, but not limited to, duties associated with monthly financial close, maintaining a strong internal control environment, financial reporting, audit support, and leadership of the accounting team. Collaborates with key Finance business partners (Operations, IT, FP&A, etc.) to develop and refine processes while ensuring adherence to accounting policies and internal controls.
The Director of Accounting:
- Direct the management of the monthly closing of the financial systems, ensuring that all activities are executed promptly and by accounting policies, procedures, and guidelines; including journal entries, monthly account reconciliations, and roll-forwards.
- Review journal entries for accuracy, aid in the research of variances, root cause analysis of key accounts, and implement measures to aid in accuracy of reporting.
- Maintain and/or develop internal accounting controls. Organize and communicate accounting policies and procedures as needed. Ensure that accounting processes and operational functions are designed effectively to meet standard internal and GAAP controls and are implemented and consistently performed for all related activities.
- Work directly with internal and external auditors on all matters pertaining to area of responsibility.
- Establish accounting operational strategies by evaluating trends, establishing critical measurements, resolving problems, and implementing change.
- Partner with senior leadership to make sure strategies and priorities are aligned with company objectives while ensuring appropriate financial controls.
- Provide leadership to drive the organization towards world-class systems and processes that exceed performance expectations.
- Establish and maintain close working relationships with business management leaders collaborating on issues in the implementation of established policies and escalating to policy owners any issue requiring policy related decisions.
- Function as a project and solution leader with accountability for the overall delivery of system improvements of critical enterprise platforms related to accounting:
- Direct ongoing financial system requirements and improvements with the company’s IT resources.
- Design, implement, maintain, and improve controls to ensure ongoing compliance with the requirements of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.
- Direct staff while managing performance, development, training, and careers for the general accounting team.
- Prepare ad-hoc financial reports and analysis for senior management.
- Carry out special projects as required.
- BS in Accounting required.
- Master’s degree with emphasis in business or computer / information sciences a plus.
- CPA required.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive corporate accounting experience; distribution industry a plus.
- Minimum 5 years in accounting management/leadership role.
- Experience and strong understanding of monthly close and reporting cycles in a large complex US corporate environment required.
- Experience in a large, multi-location company environment required.
- Experience in a fast-paced, high-volume environment with demonstrated ability to anticipate next steps, take initiative, and apply sound judgment.
- Experience with large ERP, preferably Microsoft AX Dynamics, or other complex system and process implementation projects required.
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP required.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work effectively across functions.
- Advanced Excel skills preferred.
- Ability to identify inefficiencies, re-engineer processes, prepare an action plan, and execute.
- Strong attention to detail and a passion for digging into processes to better understand them and communicate the big picture.
