Responsibilities
Basic Function: Direct and lead the cloud and on-premise, enterprise level computing infrastructure teams to ensure a reliable, secure, and highly available computing environment for the New York Tech community. Oversee the systems, cloud and Endpoint computing infrastructure. Provide leadership for the systems, and Endpoint teams, determining and aligning university business needs and the architecture, design and implementation of secure Systems and software.
Major Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership and guidance creating and supporting solution-focused, agile On-Prem, Hybrid-Cloud, SaaS, IaaS and PaaS architectures.
  • Direct and supervise staff through the complete on-prem and cloud systems management process, from design through deployment to maintenance of core hosting infrastructure for the enterprise.
  • Architect, maintain and customize on-prem and cloud environments, including development of alternative approaches, as required.
  • Architect, maintain and monitor the NYIT's Microsoft, UNIX/Linux and Apple environments including, but not limited to, Azure, Azure AD, O365, AD, SCCM, JAMF, and other client computing resources.
  • Architect, maintain and monitor hardware and software in support of enterprise level UNIX and Linux computing, including both virtualized and physical systems as well as cloud-based services
  • Design and deployment of scalable, highly available, and fault tolerant systems in Public Cloud and on premise.
  • Oversee and assist with the configuration, testing, and maintenance of client desktop computing hardware, software and peripherals; design images and manage the imaging process for standardized configuration of ITS-managed computers - both Mac and PC; design and implement new methods and technologies to improve the efficiency of supporting the endpoint infrastructure.
  • Oversee asset management of ITS hardware and software resources
  • Coordinate enterprise-level purchase decisions for desktop/laptop replacements; maintain accurate records of campus-wide license agreements including contracts, license keys and renewals; maintain appropriate vendor relations.
  • Lead the development and implementation of policies and Endpoint security procedures.
  • Manage specific applications in support of endpoint computing included but not limited to asset and ticket tracking, system management, antivirus, software deployment, print release, PII scanning, and other enterprise solutions.
  • Coordinate all aspects of maintenance, working with other members of the New York Tech community as required, to ensure availability; partner with Client Support and Engagement team to ensure an efficient flow of operations and responsive client care; provide second and third-tier technical support assistance as needed
  • In collaboration with the Information Security team, design cloud and on-prem infrastructure solutions to meet NYIT security standards; partner with 3rd parties as needed/required.
  • Analyze application portfolios, identify dependencies and common infrastructure platform components to assess migration feasibility.
  • Design, develop and continuously improve delivered services.
  • Work as a technical leader along-side internal customer, business, development and infrastructure teams
  • Implement DevOps practices such as infrastructure as code, continuous integration and automated deployment (CI/CD)
  • Assist in the development and implementation of departmental policies and procedures.
  • Mentor colleagues and staff members in usage and administration of existing and new cloud and infrastructure technologies

Qualifications
  • BS in computer science, engineering, or other technical discipline. Comparable success and work experience may be considered in lieu of degree requirement. Experience in a higher education environment preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 recent years' leadership experience including management and technology experience with enterprise-level systems, cloud-based services, and Endpoint infrastructure support; experience providing IT support in an academic environment preferred.
  • UNIX/Linux/Microsoft/Apple on-prem and cloud system administration experience required, applicable industry certification(s) are desired. Experience with High Performance Computing is also desired.
  • Windows system administration experience, including Active Directory, Office365 and TEAMS is desired.
  • Hands-on experience with UNIX/Linux/Windows/Apple system and program installation, compilation and configuration as well as enterprise endpoint management tools such as SCCM and JAMF.
  • Experience with at least one scripting language, such as Python, Perl, Bash, or PowerShell.
  • Functional knowledge of standards-based networking applications.
  • Functional knowledge of account management processes, directory and authentication services (LDAP), as well as DNS, DHCP, HTTP, NFS, SAMBA, CAS, ADFS, SAML, etc.
  • Demonstrated passion for problem solving; strong project management skills and the proven ability to build trust and work well with all levels of management and technical staff are required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people at varying levels of technical fluency including the aptitude to explain and document complex technical issues in a way that non-technical and/or inexperienced people may understand; the ability to establish collaborative working relationships at all contact levels of the University; the ability to communicate progress/challenges to appropriate personnel effectively.
  • Must possess strong analytical skills as well as active listening skills and a high degree of integrity relative to computer security and confidentiality of information.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team; ability to work concurrently on multiple tasks and projects.
  • Team player with excellent consulting skills and a fun, but professional presence required.
  • Excellent customer service skills; a high degree of integrity relative to data security and confidentiality of information required.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends on an as-needed basis is required.
