Related Management Company(RMC) seeks a Human Resources Director who will serve as a strategic partner, leading a team of HR Business Partners in managing through employee relations matters and performance management for over 2,500 Property Management employees in over 350 locations nationwide, including our support teams. In addition, you’ll ensure compliance with HR policies and procedures across RMC. In this role, you’ll operate as a critical part of our business, helping develop and retain our greatest asset – our people. The HR Director will work in concert with the Organizational Development (OD) team to execute and advance RMC’s people strategy, supporting the company’s business priorities, while reducing employee turnover and improving productivity. Successful candidates will be passionate about supporting field-based teams. This role will be based full-time in our Midtown Manhattan office.
Employee Relations
- Lead a team of HR Business Partners (HRBPs), dedicated to different portfolios or geographic areas, who manage employee relations for their assigned populations; oversee case management system.
- Direct employee relations strategy to proactively identify, prevent, investigate, and resolve issues.
- Serve as lead HR contact for RMC Senior Leadership for employee relations advice and guidance.
- Counsel leaders and employees on ER issues; identify and clarify problems, evaluate potential solutions and implement course of action aligned with Related’s policies and Code of Conduct.
- Ensure any necessary corrective actions on conduct concerns are issued in an acceptable and timely manner.
- Navigate sensitive and confidential issues with the highest levels of discretion.
- Stay abreast of the changing legal environment, consistently leveraging Corporate HR and legal team to minimize risk.
- Develop ER metrics, analyze data and trends, and make recommendations that can improve retention, internal mobility and performance management at RMC.
- Participate in collective bargaining negotiations and ensure compliance with existing CBA’s.
- Partner with Organizational Development to implement RMC and Corporate HR initiatives/policies.
- Communicate with RMC’s Recruiting Team for any talent planning needs or imminent job openings.
Talent Development & Management
- Execute and advance RMC’s people strategy through leadership of HRBP team, as well as partnership with Recruiting and Organizational Development teams.
- Partner with Senior Leadership on people strategy implementation, succession planning, and career growth opportunities for employees.
- Proactively address performance concerns with urgency, using corrective action as needed.
- Understand RMC’s business priorities and adjust strategic direction as needed for achievement.
- Direct and engage in counseling managers and employees as part of their career development and talent management plans.
- Partner with Organizational Development to ensure succession development plans are in place across RMC to retain top talent, including training and mentorship opportunities.
- Support annual review process for all employees in conjunction with RMC’s OD team and Corporate HR.
Compensation, Benefits, and Data Management
- Support annual compensation planning exercise in alignment with RMC’s pay-for-performance strategy.
- Partner with Corporate HR compensation team to conduct bi-annual and/or as needed market pay analysis.
- Provide guidance on benefits and leave matters to employees, in conjunction with Corporate Benefits team.
- Ensure employee data is accurate, effective, and standardized; partner with Corporate HRIS team as needed.
Compensation
- $130,000 - $160,000 / year
- Annual performance based bonus
Qualifications
- 7+ years of relevant HR experience, particularly in employee relations
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in HR or related field, or SHRM/PHR certification preferred
- Demonstrated experience working with geographically dispersed field-based teams
- Must have union knowledge, experience participating in grievance and arbitration hearings, and feel comfortable with union processes and procedures from a HR perspective
- Discretion, professionalism, and candor with excellent judgment and intuitive interpersonal skills
- Superior communication skills:

- Diplomatically assertive
- Highly entrepreneurial, self-motivated and results-oriented individual
- Strong project management, problem solving, organization and time management skills
- Ability to manage discreet, confidential matters
- Familiarity with state-specific laws on payroll, leave, wages, and hours, preferably in NY, MA, CA, and IL
- Prior experience supporting Property Management teams in multiple asset classes preferred but not required
Working Conditions:
This role is based full-time in office in Midtown Manhattan. At the needs of the business, periodic domestic travel will be required. Off-hours emergencies may arise and require the HR Director’s immediate attention.
