The Global Commercial Services – Global & Large Enterprise organization (G&L) manages American Express’ largest and strategically important commercial clients – driving differentiated value and providing solutions that meet the diverse and global needs of the company’s most valuable customers.
Within G&L, the U.S. Verticals team is a client management organization with B2B specialization by industry. The team’s objective is to profitably accelerate our goods and services penetration with their portfolio.
The Director, U.S. Verticals will report to the VP, U.S. Verticals [Emerging Industries] and lead a team of 3. The successful candidate will have proven followership rooted in empowerment, accountability, demonstrated ability to develop and lead a team to execute a data driven strategy to drive growth and profitability and demonstrated ability to influence and build relationships with key decision makers; Energy and Construction industry experience preferred.
Responsibilities:
- Hire, train, coach, and manage a team of direct reports as payment experts
- Develop and execute a portfolio growth strategy, adapting plans and priorities to address resource/ operational challenges
- Leverage industry knowledge and expertise in the development of growth and retention strategies and delivery of insights to clients
- Lead development of proposals related to client renewal and expansion; negotiate client contracts; and oversee implementation of solutions
- Develop and execute strategies to strengthen senior client relationships, identifying gaps in relationship stacking and strategies to bridge them
- Partner and influence across internal groups to deliver a strong value proposition to client base
- Utilize innovation to overcome complex client barriers, resolve escalated issues, and manage internal stakeholders
Minimum Qualifications:
- Demonstrated leadership through accountability, transparency, and collaboration to build highly engaged team
- Ability to organize virtual teams and influence/manage change
- Manufacturing industry experience preferred; Knowledge of B2B, key trends, and payment processes
- Strong financial acumen, results orientation, and strategic thought leadership
- Ability to gain in-depth understanding of client needs, to develop and execute a client-focused account plan with limited support and guidance
- Proven relationship management skills demonstrating a comfort level and effectiveness in seeking out and establishing relationships at C-levels and within cross-functional areas within large companies
- Effective oral and written communication skills, with the ability to influence internal and external partners
- Strong partnership skills, to identify opportunities and continue to improve product and servicing for clients in collaboration with internal teams
- Ability to travel as required (Minimum of 25% of the time)
Salary Range: $130,000.00 to $205,000.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits
