At createMPLS, our mission is to equip students for the evolving landscape of work through engaging and accessible technology education. Over the past four years, we've expanded from serving 200 students in 2 schools to reaching over 5,000 students across 40+ schools. As the demand for our services continues to grow, so does our commitment to delivering quality educational opportunities. We're seeking a Development Manager who shares our passion for empowering students and believes in the transformative power of education.
What We're Seeking
We're looking for a candidate with experience in, or a strong desire to learn, nonprofit fundraising. The ideal candidate will thrive in a dynamic environment, capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously, both independently and collaboratively. Creativity, initiative, and the ability to overcome challenges are essential qualities we seek, along with impeccable organizational skills and a commitment to meeting deadlines. Experience in event planning, grant writing, communication writing, public speaking, social media management, simple graphic design, and/or donor stewardship would be advantageous.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with the Executive Director and development team to strategize, implement, and enhance fundraising efforts.
- Lead the growth of all fundraising endeavors, including grant writing and communication efforts aimed at engaging potential and existing donors.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director to develop and execute a comprehensive development plan to increase annual and major gifts.
- Develop strategies to attract and retain donors, including current, lapsed, and non-donors.
- Participate in evening and weekend events and networking opportunities in the Twin Cities area as needed.
- Track progress using Salesforce and provide regular reports on outcomes.
- Craft compelling donor appeals and communications to attract and retain supporters.
- Plan and execute fundraising campaigns and events, including mid-size ask events and donor appreciation events.
- Utilize MailChimp for announcements and collaborate with the operations team on newsletters and impact reporting resources.
- Manage social media efforts to increase following and engagement, leveraging platforms like LinkedIn for networking.
- Lead event support contributors, providing input on marketing strategy and communications to promote createMPLS' mission.
- Secure financial, in-kind, and sponsorship support from individuals, businesses, and organizations.
- Manage and collaborate with grant writers to cultivate and expand funding relationships with foundations and corporations.
- Lead regular meetings to strategize development efforts, including board meetings, grant meetings, and operational updates.

- Strong relational skills, with the ability to build authentic connections and inspire participation.
- Collaborative mindset, capable of working alongside others to achieve shared goals.
- Effectively manage programs/projects with a non profit that were public/donor facing, with the ability to self-direct and meet deadlines.
- Responsive and accountable, with a commitment to timely communication.
- Self-starter with a proactive approach to donor engagement and fundraising.
- Ability to develop and manage strategic development plans, with a focus on tracking success and making adjustments as needed.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to nurture relationships with donors, partners, volunteers, and staff.
- Proficiency in technology, including Microsoft Office, Salesforce, and email, for development-related tasks.
