This manager will lead the Algorithms Department on a variety of Advanced Development projects that will have an impact on future best sounding hearing aids, health and wellness applications, and bring benefit to Starkey customers. These include: Algorithm Development (audio signal processing and machine learning), algorithm technology evaluations, and prototype firmware and software development. This person will help set the direction for algorithm research within Starkey and will work with other team leads to plan and execute collaborations between Algorithms and other groups within Starkey. The person in this role will be responsible for the development of new algorithms research initiatives.
Approach and Deployment (What to Do & How to Do It)
Manage Algorithms Research staff

• Prioritize workload during Adv Development portfolio planning.
• Provide guidance to staff on the performance of their responsibilities.
• Ensure employees are meeting expectations as project team members.
• Conduct performance reviews.
• Interview and recommend the hire of new employees.
• Develop and maintain a culture of collaboration and innovation within the algorithms department and assist in the same throughout the Adv Development Division.

Develop and maintain Algorithms Development process and contribute to Adv Development project portfolio.

• Participate in the strategic planning of the Adv Development Division.
• Identify opportunities for Algorithms development to contribute to Starkey's strategic objectives.
• Develop a plan and maintain responsibility for monitoring competitive activity in Algorithms.
• Ensure that Algorithms team is well represented in Starkey's patent portfolio.
• Guide projects such that they their objectives are met, assist in project problem solving, and ensure that projects comply with the Adv Development Project Process.

Develop and manage processes and procedures for the Algorithms dept.

• Provide guidance to Algorithms Development members on execution of their roles within the department and within projects.
• Work with managers within the Adv Development Division to ensure successful collaboration and working relationships between departments

Job Requirements
Education:

• Masters degree in Electrical Engineer, Computer Science or related field, required.
• Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related field, preferred.

Experience:

• 5+ years of relevant experience with a Ph.D.
• 10+ years of relevant with a Master's degree
• Extensive experience conducting Algorithm Development in C, Matlab, Python and firmware
• Experience managing algorithm research engineers
• Experience with manager-level decision making

Knowledge

• Thorough knowledge of signal processing and machine learning algorithms
• Significant knowledge of rapid software and firmware development
• Understanding of signal instrumentation
• Understanding of hearing aid technology and features
• Knowledge of acoustics
• Significant knowledge of the relevant algorithm research literature
