General Summary
The Development Director is responsible for creating strategies and leading assigned fundraising activities, including donor research and cultivation, planned giving, corporate partnerships, employee giving, and fundraising events, including Donate Dinner, Stride for Seniors, GiveGuide, and GiveMore. Responsible for meeting fundraising goals and objectives. Develop and maintain a prospect portfolio to optimize fundraising opportunities.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
- Increase overall market revenue by implementing core tactics for fundraising events, resulting in aggressive and sustainable yearover-year growth.
- Identify prospects, research, and analyze development options to predict business opportunities.
- Manage a personal portfolio of prospects.
- Develop relationships with constituents, referral partners, or existing volunteer leaders to obtain a personal introduction to prospective constituents.
- Manage, develop, and supervise assigned Development staff.
- Develop and present sales presentations to educate and sell mission engagement opportunities to prospects or constituents.
- Develop, execute and monitor development strategies to enhance the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of corporate donors through prospect identification, research, cultivation, and implementation of strategies, and direct solicitation.
- Ensure that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhere to approved budgets.
- Make periodic visits (currently virtual), explore specific needs, and resolve problems to build and maintain constituent relationships.
- Coach and guide volunteers in the execution of the event and achievement of expected outcomes.
- Manage employee giving campaigns and employee match programs.
- Perform other duties from time to time to ensure the attainment of market financial goals.
- Participate in in-service training and attend required meetings.
- Support the mission, vision, values, and strategic plan of Meals on Wheels People, Inc.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education & Knowledge
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or Project Management is strongly preferred and/or directly related professional skills and experience in Fundraising and Development.
- Proven experience in meeting and exceeding fundraising goals.
- Familiarity with Raiser’s Edge, Asana, and VolunteerHub is preferred.
Skills, Abilities & Experience
- COVID-19 vaccination required or approved waiver from Human Resources
- Minimum 3 years of directly related work experience in increasingly responsible positions.
- Bilingual/Bicultural English/Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, Asian, or African languages are strongly preferred.
- Successful leadership experience in management and development of staff in a team-oriented environment; experience with non-profit management, volunteer boards, and budgets preferred
- Valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and transportation required.
- Proven ability to effectively engage and manage a team of volunteers and one employee.
- Excellent organizational, record-keeping, time management, and multi-tasking skills, including the ability to set priorities and be flexible to last-minute changes.
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Ability to effectively organize and manage multiple organization initiatives and encourage coworkers to do the same.
- Skill and motivation to work with multicultural and socially diverse populations with the ability to effectively communicate with diverse populations, including aging, minority, low-income, and persons with disabilities.
- Willing to work extended hours to support special activities and other deadlines.
Any satisfactory combination of experience, training and/or education which ensures the ability to perform the work may substitute for the above qualifications.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands
- Fast-paced, with significant people interaction.
- May be required to move up to 50lbs and occasional reaching, bending, and stooping.
- Ability to operate general office equipment.
- Travel around the Portland and Vancouver metro areas.
- Must successfully pass Meals on Wheels People pre-employment screening, including drug testing and a criminal background check.
