Job description

Metro Chicago Hillel (MCH) seeks a dynamic and detail-oriented individual to serve as its next Development Associate. In this role, you will  impact every aspect of MCH’s work. You will be responsible for growing our financial resource development work to meet our organizational growth. From prospect research to donor meetings to tracking progress in our development plan, you will help ensure the long-term sustainability of MCH and Silverstein Base Chicago.

You will work with talented colleagues to further Hillel’s mission to inspire every student and young adult interested in Judaism to make a meaningful and enduring commitment to Jewish life, learning and Israel.

Responsibilities

Development Strategy

  • Partner with the Executive Director, Assistant Director, and lay leadership to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward a portfolio of current and future individual and institutional donors.
  • Build and nurture strong relationships with a variety of stakeholders including alumni, parents, community and university partners.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with MCH campuses’ Offices of Alumni Relations and Advancement, Hillel International, and the Jewish United Fund (JUF).
  • Partner with Hillel’s Board of Directors and Development Committee toward the achievement of all fundraising goals.
  • Work closely with Base Chicago rabbis to set and implement development strategies.
  • Draft and monitor the annual development plan, including donor communications calendar.
  • Collaborate on maintaining website and social media pages for MCH and Base.
  • Identify new opportunities for small and medium donor engagement and partner with staff to create systems to support them.

Cultivation

  • Plan periodic events, including parent parlor meetings and alumni gatherings, to share Hillel’s mission and impact.
  • Conduct prospect research and identify major donors.
  • Engage in outreach to alumni, parents, and community leaders around Chicago.
  • Prepare donor correspondence.

Stewardship 

  • Manage donor stewardship, including prospect research and gift acknowledgements.
  • Process data entry and gifts precisely and timely, and track donations, grants and program income in our database.
  • Work with Hillel staff and student leaders on sponsorship opportunities and fundraising initiatives, including recruiting, training and mobilizing students to partner in Hillel’s development efforts.
  • Coordinate prospect meetings, assist in planning materials for Board meetings, and prepare fundraising and donor reports for the Executive Director.
  • Coordinate writing and sending of thank you note/acknowledgement letters.

Solicitation

  • Write, produce, and prepare donor materials and briefings, PowerPoint presentations, reports, and grant proposals.
  • Support JUF Campaign and mandatory campaign-related activities on an ongoing basis. 
  • Attend donor meetings with the Executive Director.
  • Solicit donors for annual campaign and designated giving.
What You’ve Accomplished
  • 1 - 3 of years in [broad or specific fields, like fundraising, development, education, marketing, event planning, etc.]
  • Bachelor’s degree required. 
  • Proven success:
  • Examples:
    • Planning and leading events
    • Applying written and oral communication skills; able to communicate appropriately through email, formal letters, reports, and social media
    • Using Salesforce, Little Green Light or other database applications with a close eye to detail
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • 0-5 years development experience.
  • Knowledge of Jewish community, culture, heritage, traditions and Jewish Communal Services.
  • Superior written and verbal skills, effective at communicating with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Accomplished organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong data analysis and budgeting skills.
  • A serious work ethic, sense of humor, and willingness to take risks and learn from unexpected situations.
  • Eagerness to learn about non-profit fundraising.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite required.
  • Experience using Little Green Light or other CRM platforms preferred.
