Provide a stimulating, safe, and developmentally appropriate educational environment where children can develop cognitive, social, emotional, and physical skills. Provide a lesson plan by which classes are conducted. Assist Child Development Supervisor and functionally supervise Child Care Assistant, Student Workers, Student Teachers, Clinical Students, and Observation Students.
- Organizes and provides developmentally appropriate early childhood education programs; plans and implements curriculum and education for children aged 15 months to 5 years old. Assists the Child Development Supervisors in observing and evaluating children’s progress and communicating with parents. May assist/ lead the Child Development Supervisor to train Child Care Assistants, student workers, clinical students, and observation students performing related work; may participate in the recruitment of volunteers as appropriate to the area of operation. Communicate with parents and Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) community groups; maintains open and cooperative communication with parents and families, encouraging their involvement in the program and supporting the child's family relationships.
- Assists Child Development Supervisor and lead the training and evaluation of Child Care Associates, Student Workers, Student teachers, Clinical Students, and Observation Students. Maintains classroom equipment and materials and performs housekeeping chores as needed.
- Prepares reports and maintains records as required for the Child Care Center and the College of Education.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
- Early childhood teachers and school-age workers shall be at least 19 years of age.
- Early childhood teachers and school-age workers shall have a high school diploma or equivalency certificate (GED).
- Sixty semester hours (or 90 quarter hours) of credits from an accredited college or university with six semester or nine quarter hours in courses related directly to child care and/or Child Development, from birth to age six;
- One year (1560 clock hours) of Child Development experience in a nursery school, kindergarten, or licensed day care center and 30 semester hours (or 45 quarter hours) of credits from an accredited college or university with six semester or nine quarter hours in courses related directly to child care and/or Child Development, from birth to age six.
