Clallam County is seeking a qualified candidate to serve as Deputy Director of Information Technology under the direction of the Director of Information Technology, the Deputy Director of Information Technology oversees the day-to-day IT operations and supports the Director on IT strategy and utilizing technology to help the County achieve organizational goals. The Deputy Director of IT assist the IT Director with all aspects of Information Technology management and control, including supervision of Information Technology employees; budget preparation and management; recommendations for technical acquisitions; and development of guidelines, standards, and procedures. The Deputy Director is charged with strategic planning, tactical actions, and operational decision-making to fulfill the mission of the IT department.

Scope of Responsibilities
General direction is provided by the Director of Information Technology with activities reviewed for adequacy and professional judgment, compliance with policies and achievement of results consistent with objectives. The incumbent operates with significant latitude for independent action and decisions commensurate with demonstrated ability. Works with departments to determine cost/benefit effectiveness of recommendations and prioritization of department requests.
Accountable for the efficient and effective performance of departmental employees who are engaged in professional, technical and clerical data processing, word processing, systems automation, personal computing, networking, web development, telephone systems and application programming functions.
Assists with the preparation of thorough and timely technical advice, analyses and reports which serve as the basis for decisions by the County Administrator and Board of Commissioners and for other professionals in the department. Assures that all activities of the IT department are performed in accordance with laws affecting the data being processed. Errors in judgment and performance could have significant impact on County legal situations, financial operations and public relations, as most of the work has a critical time factor. The Deputy Director must possess initiative and drive, have broad relevant technical knowledge with good management expertise and have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Accountable for the safeguarding of Information system assets by identifying and solving potential and actual security controls. Keeps users informed by preparing performance reports; communicating system status.
Close working relationships required with County elected officials and other departments within the County government, to maintain harmonious working relationships and to solve problems affecting computer operations of the County.
Education/Training/Experience
Experience and education as demonstrated through work history, level of assignments given, projects developed and managed, complex level of analysis performed, and recorded, outstanding service to an organization and their membership.
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field
- OR in lieu of degree must have proven success as an IT director or similar role with 10+ years supervising technology teams
- 8+ years of experience working in IT operations
- 5+ years of supervising technology teams, and overseeing large Information Technology projects
- Certifications and continuing education preferred
- Experience in controlling Information Technology budget
- Excellent understanding of computer systems (hardware/software), security, network and systems administration, databases and data storage systems, and telecommunications systems
- Experience in analysis, implementation and evaluation of IT systems and their specifications
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate with teams across the entire organization
- Outstanding communication abilities

- Team oriented
- Strong knowledge of project management principles
