This is varied manual work requiring efficient performance of simple building cleaning and maintenance duties. A Custodian II works under general supervision on routine recurring assignments, with general instructions on each new or unusual assignment. The work is occasionally inspected by supervisor; acts as a crew leader.
Examples of Duties
Opens and closes buildings and locks and unlocks all doors; cleans restrooms; vacuums rugs and carpets; empties waste paper and trash containers; sweeps and mops floors; washes windows and polishes furniture; dusts woodwork, furniture and other articles; picks up paper and debris on grounds; checks heating and air-conditioning equipment for proper operation; lubricates motors, pumps, fans, etc.; performs minor service and repair on mechanical equipment; makes minor repairs to buildings, building equipment, and furniture; changes light bulbs and tubes; delivers packages and messages; Picks up and hauls refuse from buildings; performs a variety of building maintenance, carpentry, painting, masonry, and inspection tasks; acts as a helper to mechanics, carpenters, painters and other trades people where special skills are not usually needed; receives assignments from supervisor; establishes schedule for routine, ongoing cleaning activities.
Essential Qualifications
Good knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies, and equipment and ability to use them economically and efficiently; ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions; ability to lead work of others; thoroughness; dependability.
Acceptable Training and Experience
Some building cleaning experience and completion of high school; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the essential knowledge, skills, and abilities.
A Public Safety background check will be conducted for this position.
