Hours: Hours are flexible and vary during the course of the year.
Pay: Between $3,000 - $3,700 per year, depending on experience. This is an annual contract with the opportunity to renew each school year. Earnings are not TRS credible.
Purpose:
This grant-funded position is offered by Community - The Anti-Drug (CTAD), a 501(c)3 nonprofit which operates out of offices at both Deerfield and Highland Park High Schools. CTAD is a coalition of over 30 community organizations that work together to create an environment in which our youth feel protected, confident and empowered to make drug-free choices.
CTAD Youth Program Staff coordinate CTAD's Youth Advisory Board known as Delta. Delta students help their peers achieve the best versions of themselves by promoting healthy lifestyle choices, providing education, and building a supportive school culture for drug-free teens. Students chose the name Delta because it stands for change in math and science. The purpose of Delta is to prevent initiation of alcohol and marijuana use among District 113 students while imparting transferable skill sets to Delta members in areas such as leadership, organizing and helping careers. Delta also has the opportunity to work alongside community leaders in CTAD. Each Youth Program Staff member coordinates one of the two chapters: Delta DHS or Delta HP.
CTAD Youth Program Staff recruit Delta students and help them organize drug prevention activities that are positive, inclusive and empowering. CTAD will provide Youth Program Staff with ongoing technical assistance on proven prevention strategies and grant-required activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities.
  • Receive guidance and training in drug prevention strategies from CTAD staff as needed. Meet or check-in with CTAD staff at least two times per month.
  • Communicate with and respond to requests from District 113 student activities coordinators (e.g. membership rosters, yearbook photos, website page, field trip forms).
  • Recruit diverse students who represent multiple grade levels and reflect school demographics.
    • Promote Delta program and recruit students at activities fair(s).
    • Distribute and collect commitment forms and CTAD photo releases.
    • Recognize active members and distribute incentives/rewards provided by CTAD.
    • Select student officers via an application process.
  • Assist Delta student officers to coordinate and promote Delta meetings, preferably weekly and at minimum bi-weekly.
  • Coordinate a half day drug prevention training for Delta DHS & HPHS students with CTAD and other Delta Youth Program staff (typically the weekend before Thanksgiving). Training includes information on effective drug prevention strategies and planning activities for the coming school year.
  • Work with Delta students to select, plan and implement school-wide drug prevention activities including 5-6 educational activities and 2 data collection activities:
    • Delta intercept survey during Red Ribbon Week (October) and National Prevention Week (May)
    • At least one interactive educational activity per school during Red Ribbon Week AND National
    • Prevention Week Drug prevention activities can include but are not limited to: lunchtime interactive trivia; distribution of healthy living/stress relief tips, lesson plan suggestions for advisories/homeroom; presentations to students/teachers/community; virtual educational activities; public recognition of students who promote and commit to a substance-free lifestyle.
    • Collaborate with CTAD and other Delta chapter to strengthen each other's efforts.
  • Conduct one fundraiser per year (e.g. run concessions, bake sales, traditional or non-traditional fundraisers).
  • Support/amplify annual drug prevention awareness campaign provided by CTAD by eliciting student feedback on content/design, hanging posters throughout the school approximately every 6 weeks and incorporating campaign content into drug prevention activities.
  • Moderate and oversee Delta Instagram and/or other social media content in collaboration with Delta student officer.
  • Coordinate and chaperone Delta field trips such as an annual training, drug prevention summits organized by neighboring high schools and/or other training opportunities.
  • Provide grant-required documentation, such as meeting notes and sign-in sheets. Provide reports and/or prepare Delta student to provide reports on Delta activities at bi-monthly CTAD meetings in written format, video or live at virtual/in-person meetings.

Reporting
This position reports directly to CTAD Executive Director. CTAD Youth Program Staff will meet and exceed expectations if they:
  • actively engage a core group of 8 - 12 students to organize drug prevention activities in the school
  • involve 25-30 students in conducting the drug prevention activities
  • promote alcohol prevention, marijuana prevention and healthy lifestyles to the student population
  • successfully execute grant requirements described above
  • document all activities
  • maintain communication with CTAD staff
Requirements
  • Passionate about keeping our teens alcohol and drug-free
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited University or College
  • Strong communication skills, ability to speak and write clearly and professionally
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, possessing good judgment, resolve, and compassion
  • Ability to represent the school and CTAD Coalition in personal encounters and public settings
  • Well organized and self-directed
