Project: VISION is a nonprofit organization with a mission to help youth of Chicago’s Greater
Chinatown community achieve their full potential by providing them with tools for educational,
personal, and civic development. PV serves over 400 middle and High School youth each year
out of its two Chinatown youth centers as well as three local school-based sites. We are seeking
a Summer Youth Instructor to support the Chicagobility program and co-lead two cohorts of
25-35 High School students each (60 total).
Chicagobility is an art project-based learning program, with a focus on civic engagement.
Through project-based learning, youth will practice social-emotional skills, workforce skills, and
gain opportunities for career exploration. Also, the program theme will revolve around Asian
American history and culture of food. Students’ experience will culminate in creating their own
art project.
The ideal candidate will have a commitment to our mission, experience and passion for working
with young people, and willingness to be flexible and responsive to the needs of a growing
organization.
The primary responsibilities of the Instructor will include:
- Develop and facilitate engaging lessons on AAPI history, Chicago/Chinatown’s cultural
- Guide students through social-emotional learning techniques and interactive, hands-on
- Collaborate with PV staff to develop and execute a community-focused project that
- Support collection of program data and feedback from youth participants (e.g.
- Assist in administrative duties that are related to the Chicagobility program
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Sciences, Art, or a related field OR at least 2 years
- Prior teaching experience with middle or High School students (particularly in urban
- Capacity to lead field trips, coordinate with guest speakers, and manage project-based
- Professional, organized, reliable, punctual, self-motivated and a team player
- Proven ability to develop and implement a lesson within a provided curriculum that
integrates diverse subjects such as art, history, and food studies
- Understand the relevant AAPI issues and have familiarity with Asian American popular
- Proficiency in using technology and multimedia resources in the classroom
- Proactive communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with students,
staff, and community members
