Job Summary:

Assist the medical staff in providing medical services appropriate to the physical and developmental age of the assigned patient with a primary focus to provide a safe and therapeutic environment.
Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions
1. Work under the supervision of a collaborative Psychiatrist, with back up from Psychiatric medical staff.
2. Assessments and follow-up for psychiatric outpatients and inpatients, as directed. Child, Adolescent, Adult, Geriatric.
3. Provide psychiatric consultations at Decatur Morgan Campus as directed.
4. Participate in on call duties, frequency based on number of physicians and nurse practitioners on psychiatric medical staff. Includes calls from assessment staff for possible admissions as well as coverage of current psychiatric inpatients.
5. Provide weekend back up call, on rotating basis.
6. Communicate with patient families or other agencies as needed.
7. Documentation of assessment, observations, interactions and plan in a clear and concise manner.
8. Completes discharge summary accurately and appropriately.
9. Provides patient education based on physical, behavioral, psychological development and age related factors after identifying barriers to learning. Child, Adolescents, Adult and Geriatric.
10. Demonstrates knowledge of core measures and guidelines to meeting requirements.
11. Adheres to policies and procedures and demonstrates practices that ensure a safe environment for patients, visitors, co-workers and self.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Experience Required:
- Applies principles of logical/scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
- Uses special medical knowledge and skills in providing care for patients.
- Effective communication skills, able to adapt to needed level.
- Responds quickly in an emergency with appropriate action.
- Follows and/or gives precise instructions.
- Records and interprets information accurately
Education: MSN/Graduate of state approved Nurse Practitioner program. National board certification in Psych specialty, and Current licenseto practice as a registered nurse/nurse practitioner in Alabama along with continuing education requirements. CPR Certification required.
Experience:
General Medical experience desirable
Psychiatric/Mental Health experience required
