Representative Duties
The Courtroom Technology Specialist is responsible for research, recommendations, maintenance, and training on all aspects of the courts audio/visual program, which incorporates: audio/video systems and services, including courtroom sound, streaming audio and video, video/electronic evidence presentation equipment, projectors, and video conferencing equipment; including hardware and software.
Representative Duties
  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of applicable technology used in the court to ensure reliable and effective operation. Perform requisite programming to systems to accommodate local needs.

  • Troubleshoot devices at the hardware level, such as serial or hardware device level interfaces. This may include controlled distribution systems and wireless systems. Configure devices and systems for proper operation using available software and hardware and via remote support from vendors.

  • Develop, recommend, and implement standard policies and procedures pertaining to the introduction and utilization of new mobile technology and equipment for Courtroom Technology environments. Assist in the development and implementation of short and long range technological improvements, ensuring minimal disruption to courtroom activities.

  • Advise the court in areas of technology support, requirements, and capabilities including anticipation of future requirements and resolution of potential problems prior to implementation.

  • Monitor latest technology and recommend, develop, and install system upgrades or features which satisfy local court needs. Make adaptations to national systems. Plan and acquire specific systems to meet specialized local needs. Develop software to meet local needs.

  • Test and evaluate new technology prior to application in court environments.

  • Develop and instruct on procedures for coordinating video and teleconferences for the court. Procedures may involve tasks such as scheduling, basic troubleshooting, setting up equipment, initiating calls, and monitoring equipment during conferences.

  • Serve as instructor for non-technical staff on technology techniques, applications, and utilization. Develop procedural guidelines and training documentation, as needed for end users.

  • Serve as liaison with other federal agencies such as the U.S. Attorney's Office, Federal Public Defender's Office, and ensure offices receive adequate notice of available court technology. Serve as training coordinator for bar groups using court technology.

  • Act as primary technical contact for contractors and other outside vendors when audio/video systems are being installed or are under repair.

  • Advanced understanding of signal processing and delivery methods for wired and wireless audio and video systems

  • Ability to maintain a diverse collection of audio/video equipment in geographically separated areas

  • Ability to perform on a 24/7 work schedule as a situation may warrant.

  • Demonstrate familiarity and utilization of test equipment to isolate component issues

  • Ability to terminate and install A/V cabling, fiber optics, and other wiring plant routing systems

  • Coordinate roles of installer, dealers, manufactures, and other vendors as needed

  • Review bid specifications

  • Perform overall documentation needs and coordinate customer training as required
  • Setup and teardown of audio-visual equipment for use in special events including speakers, microphones, and video equipment (projectors, large screen monitors, cabling).

  • Provide backup IT support to the respective Division for local computer systems including networks, personal computers, and portable electronic devices. Other IT administrative duties as assigned, including inventory responsibilities including receiving, tracking, and updating IT equipment in a nationally supported database system.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
  • Knowledge of, and skill in, using supported applications and their design. Knowledge of theories, principles, practices, and usage of computer and audio/video hardware and software, signaling and routing hardware, and data communications systems. Knowledge of capabilities, limitations, and functional applications of data communications equipment inclusive of audio/video components. Knowledge of operating systems, servers, and workstation products. Knowledge of internal Local Area Networks (LANs) and Wide Area Networks (WANs), including how audio/video systems are accessed and converge internally as well as know security standards. Knowledge of flowcharting, form design, and control procedures. Ability to meet established deadlines and commitments.
  • Knowledge of, and skill in, information technology project management. Ability to coordinate and manage the work of integrators, consultants and other professional and technical staff.
  • Skill in analyzing court information technology needs, including evaluating supported applications.
  • Fluent working knowledge in Crestron, AMX, Extron, and Biamp analog and digital control systems, touch screens, and components.
  • Ability to read and draw basic blueprint and signal routing schemas
