The attorney in this position will play a key role in providing legal support and thought leadership to Columbia Threadneedle Investments' Asset Management business. The attorney will be part of a team of attorneys and paralegals focused primarily on supporting Columbia Threadneedle Investments' management of the approximately 180 mutual funds, ETFs and closed-end funds in the Columbia Funds Complex, as well as Columbia Threadneedle's Collective Investment Trust (CIT) Funds.

Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the management of day-to-day legal affairs for Columbia Threadneedle Investments
- Preparing and reviewing materials for, and attending, meetings of the Columbia Funds' Boards of Trustees/Directors and the Board of the Columbia Collective Investment Trust (CIT) Funds
- Support the preparation of fund prospectuses and statements of additional information for the Columbia Funds, including drafting new disclosures and working with outside counsel on registration statement matters
- Support the preparation of offering documents of the Columbia Threadneedle CIT Funds
- Assist in the support of the compliance department and business areas on the various rules and regulations applicable to the Columbia Funds and CIT Funds
- Assist in advising fund administration and accounting on matters relating to the Columbia Funds, including review of shareholder reports and other SEC filings for such funds
- Assist in providing legal advice to the distributor and transfer agent of the Columbia Funds
- Assist in the drafting and negotiating agreements for Columbia Threadneedle Investments and the Columbia Funds and CIT Funds
- Cultivating and promoting relationships with key business partners and fostering and promoting a culture of compliance
- Monitoring global and regulatory developments in consideration of potential impacts on Columbia Threadneedle Investments, the Columbia Funds Complex, and Columbia CIT Funds
Required Qualifications
- J.D.
- 1-3 years' relevant experience.
- Proficiency in computer-based legal research and document preparation, such as Westlaw, Lexis, and Microsoft office applications.
- Demonstrate accuracy, thoroughness, and thoughtfulness in legal analysis and recommendations delivered both verbally and in writing.
- Strong relationship skills with ability to deliver tough messages to both senior managers and employees at all levels in line of business.
- Ability to drive results with minimum supervision and handle day-to-day inquiries independently with judgment as to when to escalate more complex matters.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across the GCO and enterprise, while working respectfully with colleagues and driving results.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge and understanding of the Investment Company Act of 1940 and the Investment Advisers Act of 1940
- Previous experience supporting mutual funds, ETFs, closed-end funds, or collective investment trusts.
- Admitted to practice law in the state of, Massachusetts, Minnesota or New York or eligible for admission as in-house counsel.
- 1-2 years of experience as a practicing attorney (particularly in financial services) is preferable.
- Professional demeanor, with strong relationship skills and ability to deliver tough messages to business partners.
- Ability to work proactively and independently to multi-task and demonstrate a strong sense of urgency.
- Exceptional communications, writing and problem-solving skills.

Base Pay Salary
New York Residents Only: The estimated base salary for this role is $103,700 - $179,100 / year. Base salaries are determined in part based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and geographical work location. In addition, most of our roles are eligible for variable pay in the form of bonus, commissions, and/or long-term incentives depending on the role. We also have a competitive and comprehensive benefits program that support all aspects of your health and well-being.
