Primary Purpose:
Coordinate programs and services for gifted students K-12 in accordance with the Texas State Plan for the Gifted and Talented. Advanced Academics will develop and support a culture of high academic achievement and personal growth in students by supporting and educating students, parents and educators.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
Master's degree from an accredited institution (Preferred)
Certified T-TESS Appraiser (Preferred)
Principal Certification (Preferred)
Bilingual (Preferred)
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of gifted and talented student needs
Ability to generate and interpret data for program improvement
Ability to plan and implement high quality, complex events
Ability to organize and coordinate multiple projects at a time
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining professionalism
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Evidence of best practices in adult learning
Evidence of peer coaching skills
Experience
Five years as a classroom teacher, preferably in G/T or Advanced Placement, Academic Competition experience and/or leadership experience
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Coordinate Advanced Academic events and special occasions
- Support the Superintendent Scholars initiatives, including participation in field trips to Universities
- Support the Director of Advanced Academics with strategic initiatives
- Coordinate with Curriculum Coordinators when necessary to update/improve curriculum and include enrichment activities
- Coordinate and assist with the implementation of Springboard, Pre-Advanced, Pre-AP, and AP courses and curriculum in conjunction with Curriculum Coordinators and campus personnel.
- Support the continued implementation of Montessori at Lake Air Montessori Magnet.
- Support the implementation of STEAM in the ATLAS program at Tennyson Middle School.
- Coordinate and support the implementation of AVID in the district.
- Coordinate and support Dual-Credit programs in the district, including ACCELERATE, P-TECH, and ECHS.
- Develop and oversee academic competitions as appropriate to assignment
- Support identification, testing and evaluation of gifted students
- Provide support to PLCs when necessary to improve instruction
- Create and plan professional development
- Support the creation and implementation of Parent Information nights
- Support and facilitate the district level communication and public face of Advanced Academics through appropriate use of social media
- Support/Create Summer Enrichment programming
- Support/Create WIN enrichment for campuses where needed
- Participate as a member of the Advanced Academics department, assisting with implementation of TEKS-based instruction in the four core areas. Facilitate the development of performances and products at the campus level to meet the requirements of the Texas State Plan for the Gifted and Talented
- Develop and maintain professional competence through continuous professional growth activities focused on cutting-edge trends.
- Maintain a professional working relationship with principals, colleagues, students, supervisors, parents, and community members.
- Attend Advanced Academics department meetings and other meetings, as scheduled.
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Occasional evening and weekend assignments are required for special occasions, celebrations, etc.

Working Conditions:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent districtwide travel; repetitive hand motions
and prolonged use of computer. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
