Major Food Distributor located in Hunts Point Cooperative Market in the Bronx is looking for a Full-Time pork Buyer. As a pork Buyer, you will execute, negotiate and creates purchase orders with vendors as well as evaluates quotes to determine pricing. To be successful in this position, candidate should be well versed in market trends, local suppliers and vendors and have knowledge of meat products.
- Negotiates contracts and purchases with wholesalers and suppliers
- Create Purchase Orders with correct quantities and costs
- Assesses financial risks of purchases
- Engage with Warehouse personnel to ensure proper handling and dating of inventory
- Partner with Sales team to increase sales
- Researches, analyzes, and forecasts current and future buying trends, markets, styles, and products, with attention to specified target market and demographics
- Develops and maintains relationships with wholesalers and suppliers
- Attend trade shows and conferences to maintain understanding of products and trends.
- Other duties as assigned
Work Environment:
- Normal office environment
- Must be able to regularly travel to trade shows, product exhibitions and conferences
Minimum Experience and Qualifications:
- Two years of retail or wholesale Pork Buying experience required
- Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to function well in a high-paced environment
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
- Efficient typing skills, with an emphasis on accuracy and legal aspects of purchasing
- Ability to compile information and make decisions
- Ability to work under pressure
Preferred Experience and Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Business, Economics, or related field preferred
