Controls Engineer

Position Summary: The Controls Engineer will provide control system design, control panel engineering, PLC, HMI, robotics programming, and site start-up support of Material Handling Equipment (MHE) and automation equipment for manufacturing and logistics industry projects.

Duties / Responsibilities

• Applies electro-mechanical integration of motors and motor controllers, actuators, and power supplies.
• Designs, programs, and troubleshoots packaging machinery and line control systems.
• Programs robots, PLC’s, and HMI’s.
• Provides site start-up support for MHE and Automation equipment.
• Performs other related duties, as assigned.
• Provides necessary support for system startup and commissioning.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Contractor management skills are a plus.

Education and Experience

• Four-year degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent technical degree (i.e., AAS). Minimum of 4 years of Controls Engineering experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
• Requires a minimum of 4 years of relevant electrical engineering experience with PLC and robotic automation applications, preferably with KUKA, ABB, FANUC, or OMRON.
• Requires experience with Allen-Bradley (ControlLogix, PLC5, SCL500), PanelView Plus HMI’s, Industrial Communications Networks (EthernetIP, ASI, Profibus, and Profinet), Kinetix Servo Drives and VFD’s.
• Experience with Siemens S7 PLC’s, AutoCAD and Microsoft VisualStudio is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods walking around client project facilities.
• Prolonged periods sitting at desk working on computer and completing paperwork.
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Job Type: Ongoing, full-time

Schedule:

• 8 hour shift
• Monday to Friday with occasional weekends as needed.

Willingness to travel:

• Must be available for 40% - 60% project travel.
