Ditesco has an immediate need for a Construction Inspector to join our team in Fort Collins or Loveland, CO. This is an excellent opportunity to bring your expertise to a well-known and trusted firm!

SUMMARY
The Construction Inspector is an entry level construction management position within Ditesco. This position will be responsible for the field inspection of and management of projects that include water, wastewater, utility, heavy civil, transportation, and fiber broadband or telecommunications infrastructure construction. The Construction Inspector will ensure that construction and materials comply with approved plans and specifications and industry standards. This position is responsible for applying construction fundamentals of quality assurance, adhering to safety standards, and ensuring the built quality of all construction projects.

Supervision Received: Works under direct supervision of the assigned Program Manager, Senior Construction Manager or Construction Manager
Supervision Exercised: Does not directly supervise subordinates
Job Classification: Full-time or Part-time Hourly, non-exempt employee

COMPENSATION

RESPONSIBILITIES

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Other duties may be assigned. Duties are varied in nature and include:

  • Work at local and remote jobsites, as assigned.
  • Work with construction managers and engineers to ensure the construction and design intent is achieved on built construction projects.
  • Inspect construction work related to water utilities, roadways, fiber broadband, telecommunications, private development projects and enforce project specifications, contract documents and governing standards.
  • Conduct inspections and observations of construction activities to ensure work is performed in accordance with approved plans, specifications, and standards.
  • Maintain a daily log of construction and inspection activities and prepare and review progress reports.
  • Prepare construction documentation such as; daily logs, punch lists, non-conformance reports, etc.
  • Document and prepare draft as-built drawings and reports to assist in preparation of record drawings produced by others.
  • Coordinate work items, schedule, and communicate amongst contractors, utility companies, governmental agencies, citizens, and others as needed.
  • Compile and analyze reports, records, and other data to plan, assist with design and/or evaluate projects or programs.
  • Review, and compile permit applications including building permits, and municipal and CDOT right of way permits.
  • Attend weekly construction progress meetings.
  • Measure distances to verify accuracy of dimensions of project elements for plan and specification conformance and quantity tracking.
  • Verify levels, alignment, and elevation of construction work.
  • Compute monthly estimates of work completed and recommend approval of in place quantities and work completed for supervisor approval.
  • Record quantities of materials received or used during specified periods to ensure compliance with project specifications and construction budget.
  • Schedule and/or review testing of materials such as concrete, soil, and asphalt to verify the physical properties and ensure compliance with specifications and standards.
  • Verify material and equipment received is compliant with approval submittals and shop drawings prior to incorporation into the work.
  • Interpret design drawings and specifications for contractors and discuss deviations from specified construction procedures to ensure compliance with regulations governing construction.
  • The successful candidate will work collaboratively with their coworkers and assigned supervisor to help achieve their respective project and construction management objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Associate’s Degree in Construction Management, or related field from an accredited college or university preferred.
  • Special Licensing or Certification: Interest and desire to obtain a Construction Manager in Training (CMIT) designation progressing to a Certified Construction Manager.
  • Experience: 1 to 5 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • An understanding of construction principles across multiple disciplines including commercial, industrial, heavy civil, telecommunications and transportation industries.
  • Knowledge of current construction and engineering principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of construction materials and ability to identify substandard materials and practices.
  • Knowledge of construction management and the ability to recognize deviations from standards.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations; ability to perform simple statistical analysis.
  • Ability to use spreadsheets, graphics, presentation, and word processing software.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and related technical documents.
  • Ability to write inspection reports.
  • Ability to remain current with changing construction methods and practices and to attend lectures, seminars, conferences, etc.
  • Good interpersonal and problem-solving skills.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to communicate with clients and the public and respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively communicate with contractors and people in the construction trades to interpret plans, specifications, and contracts in resolving construction-related issues. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to management, public groups, and/or clients. Bi-lingual in Spanish is a plus.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to apply mathematical concepts necessary to perform geometry and algebra at a high schoolgraduate level.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, uneven terrain, underground or confined space conditions, building heights, and elevated workspaces. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud requiring appropriate hearing protection. Routine lifting, carrying or maneuvering items in excess of 75 lbs. such as manhole covers or vault lids.

All employees are required to take OSHA confined space, fall protection, trench safety, CPR and other training classes as may be required by the company.

Travel Requirements
May be required to travel to projects greater than 50 miles from the main office location. May be required to perform work at remote job sites for varying lengths of time.
