Job Description

Win’s next Executive Vice President/Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a leader who demonstrates comprehensive command of financials and budgeting. This position on Win’s executive team is an ideal opportunity for a vibrant and visionary leader with significant financial experience to drive the budget strategy and systems for the largest provider of services to families experiencing homelessness in NYC. With an annual budget nearing $150M and a headcount of over 1,000 employees, the CFO will forge a three to five-year financial plan to support the vision and growth strategy of Win while expertly navigating annual responsibilities. In addition, this position will have a leading role in Win’s efforts to develop and sustain transitional and permanent supportive housing throughout New York City. The successful applicant will have not only a demonstrable interest in and understanding of finance, but also a passion for the mission-oriented field of affordable and supportive housing. The applicant must have strong analytical and financial acumen, be a strategic thinker with a strong degree of initiative, have excellent organizational skills, and the ability to effectively juggle multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail.

Effective Planning

  • Oversee the preparation and communication of monthly and annual financial statements.
  • Present financial results to the management team and Win’s Board of Directors.
  • Oversee financing strategies and activities, as well as banking relationships.
  • Develop and utilize forward-looking, predictive models and activity-based financial analyses to provide insight into the organization’s operations and business plans.
  • Oversee the development and monitoring of agency’s operating budget.
  • Develop programmatic and departmental budgets and forecasts as needed.
  • Participate in agency policy development as a member of the senior management team.
  • Oversee cash flow planning, investment, and asset management, and ensure availability of funds as needed.

Performance Management

  • Oversee the Accounting Department to ensure proper maintenance of all accounting systems and functions.
  • Complete annual performance evaluations.

Risk Management

  • Ensure maintenance of appropriate internal controls and financial procedures.
  • Ensure accuracy of financial and management reporting for federal and state funders, foundations, and Win’s Board of Directors.
  • Oversee government and annual audits and proper filing of tax returns.
  • Oversee tax filings and reporting for all Win related entities including real estate development and housing entities.
  • Ensure legal and regulatory compliance regarding all financial functions.
  • Represent the organization to its financial partners, including financial institutions, donors, auditors, and grantors.

Governance

  • Remain up to date on nonprofit audit best practices and state, federal and local law regarding nonprofit operations, including the New York Nonprofit Revitalization Act and its amendments and the new modified Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) financial reporting standards for nonprofits.
  • Engage the finance committee of Win’s Board of Directors to develop financial plans and projections in conjunction with Win’s COO.

Organizational Alignment

  • Serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO and C-suite peers.
  • Assist in selecting skilled staff for the finance team and works with divisions to allocate budget for human capital management.

Essential Functions:

  • Must have advanced business acumen, strategic and analytic capabilities.
  • Must be able to sit at a computer for long periods of time during the work day.
  • Must be able to attend meetings and events using public transportation.

Qualifications:

  • Commitment to Win’s mission, vision, and values.
  • MBA or related degree required.
  • Ten (10) years of experience in a senior financial-management position partnering with executive staff and the implementation of financial management strategies required.
  • Demonstrated experience of nonprofit accounting, fund and grant accounting, compliance, and reporting.
  • Experience with various affordable and supportive housing programs
  • Understanding and experience in affordable housing management and compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Office of Management and Budget Circular A133 audits.
  • Knowledge of housing accounting a plus.
  • Advanced proficiency with financial management software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
