Job description

The Compensation Analyst assists in the development, implementation, and administration of compensation programs in accordance with established guidelines and policies. The Analyst provides recommendations on compensation issues and proposals, performs analytics on collected wage information, examines and evaluates positions and wages for positions, and prepares wage and salary data to facilitate compensation and management functions within Harbor Freight Tools. The Compensation Analyst communicates with all levels of management to determine type, scope, and purpose of analyses and works closely with the HR and Finance teams to coordinate various enterprise-wide compensation programs.
The Analyst The responsibilities are of a professional level, and require understanding of both compensation theory and practice.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct job analysis, evaluation and salary administration to ensure appropriate salary grades, ranges, and pricing based on internal and external equity.
  • Work closely with HRBPs, Compensation, HRIS and Talent Acquisition teams on proposals for new hire offers, promotions, and market adjustments.
  • Participates in a variety of Compensation related analytical projects including the year-end compensation cycle.
  • Support ad-hoc projects and develop reporting from the current HRIS system (UltiPro).
  • Review and proactively provide the analysis of market trend and recommendations for any changes in our structure or individual adjustments based on the data.
  • Help manage company Non-Qualified Retirement Service plans and Long Term Incentive plans
  • Review market salary survey data to determine appropriate benchmarks and market pay ranges for new job profiles.
  • Audit employee pay/records and recommend reviews, if necessary.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures; recommend and update internal guidelines and procedures, as necessary.
  • Provide analytical and administrative support in the implementation of compensation projects, systems, and initiatives.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable compensation resource for client partners at corporate and in the field.

  • Performs activities to develop, implement, and administer compensation policies and programs.
  • Analyze competitive salary information to determine company’s competitive position in the retail sector.
  • Prepares special studies and recommendations on employee compensation.
  • Examine proposed salary adjustments for conformance with established guidelines, policies, and practices.
  • Recommends corrective or alternative actions to resolve compensation related issues.
  • Develops SOPs for the review of job classifications to determine appropriate salary grade assignments.
  • Formulates recommendations regarding development of company salary structure.
  • Leads projects / initiatives to develop new compensation programs, structures, etc.
  • Work with all levels of employees across all locations and vendors for the various programs
  • Responsible for maintaining security of highly confidential data.
  • Provide assistance and support on assignments and/or problems as needed.
  • Manages YE compensation process
  • Answers day-to-day employee inquiries concerning compensation and NQDC program.
  • Manages the annual process including annual and midyear merit increase cycle.
  • Prepares appropriate dashboards to communicate to leadership.
  • Supports all administrative duties related to the Compensation and RSP programs at HFT.

Requirements

Education (Required)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or Human Resources Management or equivalent experience; CCP a plus.
Skills (Required)
  • Knowledge of compensation principals, programs, practices.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, including Excel (Pivot Table and V-Look ups) and PowerPoint required. Strong technical knowledge of excel including formulas and functions.
  • Must be detail oriented with strong analytical skills and be able to present analytical data in an easily understandable format.
  • Advanced personal computer skills in databases, spreadsheet and word processing software
  • Detail oriented and skillful at data manipulation.
Skills (Preferred / Desired)
  • Experience with UltiPro is preferred.

Experience (Required)
  • A minimum of 2 to 5 years of experience in a compensation role.
Additional Qualifications (behavioral traits, certifications, etc)
  • Ability to handle sensitive employee information with high degree of confidentiality and discretion.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced changing environment and be able to use independent judgment for decisions that may not be straightforward.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organization skills. Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management. Ability to effectively and professionally communicate/present, both in writing and verbally.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks concurrently while meeting deadlines
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Results oriented, organized, self-starter
  • Will need to exhibit strong judgment in handling issues and exceptions as they arise.
The anticipated salary range for this position is $68,700 – $103,100 depending on location, knowledge, skills, education and experience. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition, we offer comprehensive and competitive benefits to Associates (and their families) such as medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term and long-term disability. Eligible Associates are able to enroll in our company’s 401k plan. Associates will accrue paid time off up to 236 hours per year (inclusive of PTO, floating holidays, and paid holidays). Paid sick time up to 80 hours per year unless otherwise required by law.
