Butterfly Pavilion is currently engaged in a $55 million Capital Campaign to expand Butterfly Pavilion into a new global, state-of-the-art research, education, and conservation hub in 2027.

Commitment: 12-15 hours per week for a minimum of 4 months. The weekly schedule is flexible to accommodate class and work schedules.


Position Summary:

The Community Programs Marketing Intern at Butterfly Pavilion is an opportunity to develop real-world skills in marketing planning and execution, creative and trending content development, and project management at a nonprofit, achieving global impact in invertebrate education, research, and conservation. The intern will be responsible for developing content for social media, emails, webpages and more to engage users and create a relationship between customers and Butterfly Pavilion's Community Programs. They will also be responsible for planning content calendars, drafting compelling captions, and assisting the marketing team with other social campaigns. The Intern will report directly to the organization's Marketing Coordinator & Community Programs Manager and can collaborate with individuals in multiple departments to achieve project goals.


Stipend: Unpaid; school credit can be earned for this internship


Key Skills Learned:

  • Experience in developing and implementing creative social media content high-quality plans
  • Experience in creating and monitoring email campaigns
  • Technical skills in shooting and editing videos for social media and other marketing platforms
  • Understanding of content development for various platforms and audiences
  • Increased knowledge of marketing applications and technology
  • Skills in professional communication, collaboration, and project management

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Preference is given if currently pursuing/completed a Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism or a related subject
  • Basic knowledge of video editing using smartphone applications and/or any of these desktop applications (iMovie, Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro)
  • Excellent writing and proofreading skills and familiarity with social media platforms
  • Professional, inclusive and open communicator able to work, and solve problems, independently and on a team
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, InDesign and/or Photoshop a plus, but not required

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop visual and written content to promote Community Programs events, including adult programs and family and children's programs on our main social channels - Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, LinkedIn and YouTube
  • Work closely with the marketing department, film, edit and implement videos to meet specific project goals.
  • Work closely with the Community Programs Team to understand marketing goals for program promotion and education
  • Monitor and report on social media performance and make recommendations to expand reach, engagement, and user satisfaction
  • Assist in developing content as needed for promotional posters, brochures, blog posts, emails, and advertisements
  • Identifying further opportunities to promote Community Programs
  • Taking and editing photos of programs for program promotion
  • Other duties as assigned

Training: Successfully complete New Volunteer and Intern Orientation and All Team Training.


Minimum Age Requirement: At least 18 years of age.


Physical Demands: Work primarily involves sitting at a desk using computer for extended periods of time. May occasionally be required to walk and lift items less than 25 lbs.
