Summary
The employee is responsible for providing communications support by working with various staff and departments. This position will support both internal and external communication needs of the district through the use of effective print and electronic communications. Assist in overall development and implementation of district-wide communications strategies and tactics, including execution of specific programs for internal and external school district audiences. The employee will take part in the collective responsibility for creating and sustaining affirming, inclusive school and work environments. This position will encourage and support mindful, compassionate communication.
Required Qualifications:
B.A. degree in marketing, journalism, public relations, communications or equivalent
Experience in the marketing or communications field, including media and public relations
Competent organizational and planning skills
Human relation skills and experience working with diverse populations and community organizations
Excellent writing, graphic design and photography skills
Flexible schedule
Efficient word processing, desktop publishing, and maintaining web site skills
Ability to work with deadlines and pressure
Ability to nurture good rapport with others
Passion to work in public education
Experience working with electronic communication and media
Master's degree in marketing, journalism, public relations, communications or equivalent
Create press releases, web content, social media posts, communication plans, newsletter content, speeches and scripted comments for public events.
Assist in covering positive stories at schools and district level, working with building contacts to inform, promote and celebrate our students, staff, schools and district.
Assist with special-project writings, publications and presentations as assigned including grants, community reports, leadership presentations, and marketing materials.
Proofread and edit written content and slides for electronic presentations.
Work with building and department leaders in the implementation of aligned culture/climate and inclusion strategies.
Support the goals within the Strategic Plan with the focus on equity and inclusion.
Assist with supporting the Crisis Response team by assisting the building and district staff, as needed, with media access and inquiries.
Partner with the grants department and assist as needed.
Assist with special events and programs when needed.
Other duties as assigned.
Work Environment:ISD 622 is a community collaborative dedicated to educating and empowering all learners to excel in our changing world. As a Communications Specialist in our learning environment, the individual will primarily work indoors in a climate controlled office environment, but will be required to attend events throughout the District. At times the events may be outdoors.
