About Minnesota Indian Women’s Resource Center (MIWRC)

MIWRC is a non-profit social and mental health services organization committed to traditional ways of being and support of Native women and their families. Founded in 1984, MIWRC provides a broad range of programs designed to educate and empower Native women and their families, and to inform and assist those who work providing services to the community.

Position Summary:

The Communication Specialist will plan, develop, implement and analyze social media campaigns and support strategic initiatives to create and maintain a positive public relations image for the organization.

General Responsibilities

· Uses social media to build and maintain relationships with members of the community.

· Serves as a liaison between the organization and the public.

· Plans, develops, implements, and organizes events to advance the mission and goals of the organization.

· Organizes community outreach programs and coordinates special events that will influence public opinion or promote services, or ideas of the organization.

· Uses social media to coordinate community relations.

· Drafts and distributes/publishes various content pieces that promote the organization, as well as individuals or groups within the organization.

· Selects positive publicity materials and distributes them through a variety of channels.

· Responds to inquiries from community members and other interested parties; when needed, recruits a knowledgeable spokesperson or information source to assist.

· Plans, coordinates, and executes special events and press conferences.

· Develops and maintains a positive public image for the organization through public-facing communication.

· Writes, reviews, and/or distributes press releases and other public-facing communication.

· Responds to information requests from media contacts.

· Establishes and maintains positive relationships with media outlets, consumers, government employees, and public interest groups.

· Develops and/or executes social media and content strategies to release information on the organization in a manner that will promote a positive public image.

· Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

· Extensive knowledge of public relations principles and strategies.

· Excellent public speaking skills.

· Excellent written communication skills with a proven ability to write in a journalistic style that is customary for external publications.

· Excellent interpersonal and networking skills with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with media contacts and outlets.

· Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

· Excellent time management skills with the proven ability to meet deadlines.

· Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Education and Experience:

· Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or related field required.

· Two years of related experience required.
