NorthPoint Health & Wellness Center is seeking a Principal Communication Specialist to join our team. This position will provide public relations and outreach services for internal and external audiences through various mediums such as news and media, broadcast coordination, video, graphic design, photography, coordination of major public events and special projects, digital media, and plain language.
This position is hybrid and will be performed on-site at the NorthPoint Health & Wellness Center at 1256 Penn Ave North, Minneapolis, MN 55411 and remote as job duties require. Work hours will be Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with some evenings and weekends. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in Minnesota or Wisconsin.
New employees who are hired into remote or hybrid positions between January 2, 2022 to December 31, 2024, will receive $500toward the cost of establishing consistent internet connectivity, payable upon completion of 6 months of employment.

In this position, you will:
- Provide strategic communication and public relations consulting services by generating ideas and helping determine the best communication strategy and solution.
- Develop and implement communication plans, evaluate communication plan results, prepare reports, and make recommendations for future efforts.
- Create communication plans, key messages, and communication approaches for various topics to ensure that communication is in accordance with NorthPoint policy guidelines.
- Write, edit, prepare, and produce a variety of public information/communication messages and distribute via appropriate internal and external communication channels.
- Identify gaps in communications, develop/recommend strategies, implement solutions, and present results to management.
- Manage the brand that is used on all communications to ensure consistency in messaging.
- Determine presentation materials and coach staff for presentations, public meetings, and media interviews.
- Provide communication assistance during emergencies and collaborate with other agencies on local, statewide, regional, and national emergencies.
- Attend community meetings and give presentations on behalf of the organization to increase awareness of NorthPoint's services.
- Engage and communicate with cultural communities about the organization's services and explore and facilitate partnership opportunities.
- One of the following:
- Seven years or more of related professional experience in strategic communications supporting a broad range of programs, projects, and services.
- Two years or more of college and five years or more of related professional experience in strategic communications supporting a broad range of programs, projects, and services.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in journalism, English, communications, mass communications, marketing, media studies, public administration or a closely related field and three years or more of related professional experience in strategic communications supporting a broad range of programs, projects, and services.
- Experience:
- Managing creative campaigns including developing multi-media content components.
- Working in communications or public relations in support of the public sector.
- Planning and creating content for publication (i.e., brochures, flyers, reports, websites).
- Ability to:
- Work independently and collaboratively.
- Work under deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Communicate clear and concise information both verbally and in writing with a wide variety of audiences.
