Responsibilities

You will be responsible for producing high-quality content for various platforms, such as long form articles, social media, newsletters, and presentations. You will also design and develop visual communication materials, such as infographics, charts, graphs, and videos, to enhance our message.

To be successful as a Communications Specialist, you should have excellent writing and editing skills, as well as a keen eye for design and aesthetics. You should also have strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with different teams and stakeholders. You should be able to manage multiple projects and deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities and needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, create, and implement effective communication strategies for internal and external audiences.
  • Write, edit, and proofread clear and compelling content for various platforms including email.
  • Design and develop visual communication materials, such as infographics, charts, graphs, and videos, using appropriate tools and software.
  • Ensure that all communication materials are consistent with the company’s brand guidelines, tone, and voice.
  • Research and analyze relevant information, data, and trends to support communication objectives and goals.
  • Collaborate with different teams and stakeholders, such as marketing, sales, product, and management, to ensure alignment and coordination of communication efforts.
  • Stay updated on the latest communication trends, best practices, and technologies, and apply them to improve communication outcomes.

The department is responsible to build, grow and protect Mayo Clinic’s reputation in a way that shapes the external environment and nurtures the culture to help achieve the mission of the organization. Department functions consist of reputation management including thought leadership and issues/crisis response; client communications and engagement programs; staff engagement; content and channels; government and community engagement; strategy and insights; communications services.
The specialist understands Mayo Clinic business objectives and priorities and participates in creating and implementing plans to meet those objectives. The specialist supports client needs and partners with other department team members to drive and measure outcomes. Must develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders to advance the organization's mission.


Qualifications

Requires a bachelor's degree in a related field plus 1 year of relevant work experience. Exceptional writing and editing skills, with a portfolio of published or produced content including long form articles, formal presentation decks and infographics will be necessary in this role. Proficiency in design and video editing software, such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, or similar tools is also required.

Related internships will be considered. Strong written and oral communication skills. Ability to communicate in a way that creates clarity, simplifies messages, and aligns with organizational strategy. Knowledge of channels for communication and the ability to build effective communication and engagement strategies.
Must be a self-starter with the ability to independently identify opportunities, solutions and resolve challenges. Demonstrated ability to deliver impactful results. Requires an attitude that actively seeks out change, embraces critical questioning, innovation, service and continuous improvement. Must understand how to deal with and navigate ambiguity, and act without having the total picture. Adaptable or flexible.
