About us:
The Simon Wiesenthal Center (SWC) is a global Jewish human rights activist organization that confronts anti-Semitism, hate, stands with Israel, defends the safety of Jews worldwide, and teaches the lessons of the Holocaust for future generations. It is an accredited Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) at the United Nations, UNESCO and the OSCE, the Organization of American States, the Latin American Parliament, and the Council of Europe. The SWC is headquartered in Los Angeles with offices in New York, Chicago, Miami, Toronto, Paris, Jerusalem and Buenos Aires. The Museum of Tolerance Los Angeles, founded in 1993, is the educational arm of the SWC. Moriah Films is the Center’s two-time Academy Award®-winning film division and the Museum of Tolerance Jerusalem is scheduled to open in 2024.
About the role:
The Simon Wiesenthal Center is seeking an experienced Communications Manager.
About you:
You are passionate about Jewish issues, Israel, Middle East politics, fighting anti-Semitism hate and intolerance.
This position will report to the Director of Global Communications and will work on-site in Los Angeles.
Responsibilities:
- Help to develop content to provide a consistent, targeted, and impactful message.
- Builds and maintains solid partnerships with colleagues internally and in the field to develop, coordinate, direct, and facilitate internal and external communications
- Identify and respond to breaking news stories
- Write and disseminate press releases expediently
- Set-up press conferences
- Build and cultivate media relations and press outreach
- Works with team, including in-house art director, and others, to create press kits, newsletters, reports, collateral materials.
- Contributes ideas for new programs, researching and recommending innovative branding techniques.
- Provides hands-on support for assigned departments, paying close attention to timelines.
- Identifies and presents opportunities for consistency in messaging from digital to print.
- Develops an understanding of short- and long-term department goals and planned initiatives.
- Help creates, implement and execute a communications calendar
- Stays informed of developments in the field of communications within the industry to foster ideas and innovation.
- Work with the team on events, both fundraising and other, including at the Museum of Tolerance
Experience and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in political science, communications, journalism or related fields, with a minimum of 4 years of relevant work experience
- Deep understanding of the Jewish world, issues of anti-Semitism, Israel, Middle East politics
- Knowledge of Hebrew is ideal, but not required
- Passion for Jewish issues, Israel, fighting anti-Semitism, hate and intolerance
- Personality profile to fit into a safe, inclusive, open and collaborative culture that requires teamwork and significant interaction with employees at all levels.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, agile environment where you will get your hands into the details.
- Strong, versatile, quick copywriting skills
- Good organizational, planning, and coordination skills
- Ability to multi-task and re-prioritize as needed
- Desire to take full ownership of assigned projects and can work independently
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Possesses a sense of urgency; is self-motivated and detail-minded
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build collaborative relationships
- Good verbal presentation, group dynamic, and facilitation skills
- Proactive approach in resolving problems and issues
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite, Cision, Dropbox, or similar software; working knowledge of web content management systems experience, preferably Blackbaud’s Luminate CMS
