Job Description
Illinois Green Alliance seeks an experienced professional to lead our communications and outreach strategies to grow engagement and bring greater visibility to our programs, events, and services. Working closely with Illinois Green Alliance Programs team, the Manager of Communications and Engagement will help facilitate greater participation in our programs and events and expand stakeholder awareness of our programs focused on green buildings and sustainable communities.
The ideal candidate will have experience collaborating in a team to develop and implement outreach strategies that broaden and deepen the awareness and engagement of volunteers, partners, and other target audiences. They are excited to work closely with a dedicated and driven team and driven by the opportunity to advance meaningful solutions to climate change by expanding community participation and awareness.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute strategic communication plans to effectively convey the organization's programs, and impact to various audiences including volunteers, members, partners, and the community.
- Manage all external communications that help communicate our programs and help recruit participation in our events, including newsletters, website content, social media, and marketing materials.
- Implement a robust communications calendar to boost event attendance and deepen the participation of building industry professionals in our programs and services.
- Cultivate, champion, and lead by example through our communication strategy while collaborating with our staff and volunteers to promote our inclusive culture, foster a strong sense of community, and encourage action-inspiring initiatives
- Work closely with the Development and Operations Manager to ensure consistency in messaging and branding and assist in media relations.
- Oversee the creation and distribution of engaging content such as articles, blog posts, videos, and infographics that resonate with our target audience.
- Collaborate closely with the Programs Team as a partner in making events and programs successful.
- Monitor and analyze communication metrics and outcomes, utilizing data to refine strategies and maximize impact.
- Effectively coordinate with communication consultants, adapting to the specific needs of each project.
- Talented communicator adept at storytelling across various media
- Experience in organizational communications – including email marketing, social media, and blog writing
- Proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, & Photoshop
- Experience using a CRM database – like Neon One, Salesforce, etc. preferred
- Ability to produce high quality, error-free communications content on deadline
- Passion for decarbonization of the built environment, social equity, community engagement, and the mission of Illinois Green Alliance.
- Strong commitment to making a difference and enthusiasm for Illinois Green’s mission
- Collaborative team player skilled in synthesizing feedback

- Highly organized and detail-oriented
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, balancing competing goals and demands from staff, volunteers, and community partners
- Strong interpersonal communication skills to effectively coordinate and build meaningful relationships across multiple audiences
The salary range for this position is $50,000 to $75,000. Offers will be made commensurate to experience. Benefits include:
