Communications Content Intern

Scope: The Corporate Communications Content Intern will gain real-life experience working in a professional corporate communications environment in alignment with the company’s strategic priorities. The role will support the company’s external communications with a focus on customer communications and social media content. The candidate will work under the direction of the External Communications Manager and Director of Corporate Communications within a formal team planning process. The role includes partnering with Marketing Strategy, Email Production and Creative Services teams to execute content and managing stakeholder relationships across company functions.

Major Responsibilities:

• Planning Process – Participate in regular planning meetings with stakeholder representatives across the company and manage a master content calendar in Smartsheet.
• Customer Communications – Contribute to collecting, researching and writing content for the company’s bi-weekly newsletter (Customer Connections) and monthly online Product Central publication.
• Social Media (LinkedIn, Facebook, X) – Develop content across a range of topics as part of the company’s social media strategy, including culture, talent, business offerings and other company news. Each piece of content requires a visual and accompanying narrative/link. The candidate will also explore other potential social media channels and metrics and gain experience using the Sprout Social platform
• Understands and demonstrates Essendant’s Core Values and Guiding Actions.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Skills/Knowledge Required:

• Strong writing skills for a variety a long- and short-form content.
• Some visual/creative experience utilizing branded templates to create supporting visuals, or a willingness to learn.
• Experience with WordPress a plus, or a willingness to learn
• Ability to multitask and work within a deadline-oriented environment.
• Strong interpersonal skills for building relationships and working collaboratively within a team structure
• Open to feedback and learning as part of a professional team

Education and Experience:

• Communications, journalism or marketing background
• A current college student or recent graduate
