The Pandemic Center at the Brown University School of Public Health seeks a communications specialist to support leadership and staff of the Center in creating and disseminating materials about the Center, its work, and the work of its faculty, across platforms and formats.
Create written and visual content, including graphics, for the Pandemic Center's social media accounts and Center-managed websites, and other purposes, (ensuring adherence to Brown University standards). This often requires synthesizing and distilling complex scientific information and research into clear, easy to understand content to drive engagement.
Manage third-party social and internet listening platform (i.e. Mention), track activity of all media mentions of the Center or related faculty, and monitor online communities, identifying opportunities to create content, staying aware of trends and fielding issues as they arise.
Monitor inbound communications.
Provide virtual and in-person event support, including promotion and content creation before the event (including posting events to Events@Brown, Today@Brown, and sharing details with relevant Brown departments), staffing during, and creating relevant content and tracking event statistics afterward.
Provide support (i.e.copy-editing, proofreading, design) for articles, op-eds, presentations and publications from Center faculty.
Assist with the organization and management of the Center's distribution lists.

As the Pandemic Center is growing, our current Communications and Outreach Specialist is being called upon to fill a more strategic role and needs support with the day-to-day communications tasks that are essential to the success of the Center.

Job Requirements:
Type of experience needed?
Strong writing and communications skills.
Experience in communications, specifically social media execution, newsletter writing and website management.
Prior experience utilizing visual editing tools. Experience with Canva or the Adobe Suite (PS, ID, AI) preferred
Experience working in academic communication preferred.
Prior experience working on web platforms such as Wordpress, Squarespace and Drupal preferred.
Experience in copywriting and editing in short and long form strongly preferred.

This is a no-ego, all-hands-on-deck team that jumps in to help each other even when the work falls outside of their job descriptions.
