We are currently looking for a Communication Specialist/ Sr. Communication Specialist for our Carthage, TX or Longview, TX office.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
This position will receive training and become responsible for duties that consist of, but are not limited to, the installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of SCADA Radio MAS telemetry systems, Data Concentrator / RTU facilities, wired & wireless networking and LAN equipment, telephone KSU, Voice-Over-IP, & voice mail systems, cellular router equipment, solar power packages (12VDC & 24VDC), VSAT equipment for real-time SCADA, T1s, fiber optic cable, and other hardwire cable circuits, security systems, to include remote cameras & automated gate opening equipment, applicable two-way radio facilities, applicable tower lighting control equipment, etc. This position will eventually become responsible for the sole support of all field Communications related issues within the assigned area and will provide interim support for neighboring areas, as required. This position will be expected to periodically work overtime, and to respond to call-outs after hours and on weekends. Qualified candidate must live within 30 miles of the Gulfsouth Carthage or Longview Compressor Station office in order to respond to callouts in a timely manner. Some periodic overnight travel may be required. Qualified candidate will report to the local Area Manager/Area Supervisor on all employee-related issues and will coordinate all field Communications issues through the BWP Field Communications Technical Support Group. The area the Gulfsouth comm specialist would be covering will start up at Paris Tx and extend south to Goodrich TX. There are 9 compressor stations and multiple interconnecting facilities that the comm specialist will support.
REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE:
- 1-3 years technical expertise in field Communications work in the Utilities or Wireless industry, or equivalent experience
- Strong technical aptitude and proficiency in PC usage hardware, software & LAN equipment
- Working knowledge of basic AC and DC power fundamentals
- Knowledge of basic grounding principles as applied to equipment, AC and DC power
- Critical thinking skills and ability to manage multiple tasks at a time
- Ability to prioritize and schedule assigned tasks with optimum efficiency for the greatest benefit to Boardwalk
- Adaptive to a fast-paced environment that often requires short deadlines and changing priorities
- Strong analytical skills and logical thought processes to break down and resolve complex technical issues
- Knowledge of F.C.C. rules and regulations as applicable to licensed radio systems equipment
- Excellent verbal communications and documentation skills
- Ability to discuss technical issues in common, logical terms with all levels of corporate and field employees
- Must be highly self-motivated and experienced in working independently with little or no direct supervision
- Ability to pick up and carry test equipment and materials up to 50 lbs. for 50 ft.
- Ability to work outside in hot, cold, muddy and wet environments, and ability to stand for long periods of time, climb ladders, etc.
- Maintain a high level of emphasis on personal safety and the safety of company employees, assets, and the general public
- Must be adaptable to organizational change
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
- Two-year applicable Associates degree in a technical field, or equivalent experience
- High School Diploma
