Primary Purpose:
Responsible for the overall management of the Information Technology Department and strategic planning of technology systems districtwide. Provide expertise and direction in the development, deployment, and use of information technology in the district.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is preferred. In lieu of a bachelor's degree, a minimum of 10 year's experience as a director or executive role in K-12 education.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, project management, and technology implementation.
Knowledge of computer applications, development, and implementation of technology systems, including voice, video and data applications.
Knowledge of technology standards for construction projects.
Knowledge of educational technology trends, best practices, and compliance requirements.
Knowledge of computer network, hardware, and software for business and educational applications.
Knowledge of cybersecurity and student data privacy requirements.
Evidence of strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Strong leadership, communication, and team management skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of stakeholders.
Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data standards.
Experience:
10 years' experience in technology leadership, with a strong background in K-12 education.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Strategic Technology Leadership:
Develop and implement a comprehensive technology strategy aligned with the educational goals and objectives of the school district.
Lead the development and execution of technology initiatives to support teaching, learning, and administrative functions.
Develop and implement district standards and specifications for hardware and software use.
Provide technology standards to be implemented for all new construction. Participate in the phases of construction to ensure implementation of district standards.
Infrastructure Management:
Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of the school district's technology infrastructure, including networks, hardware, and software systems.
Ensure the reliability and security of technology systems, data, and information.
Manage, direct, and assign priorities and personnel to on-going projects to ensure the attainment of district technology goals.
Innovation and Educational Technology:
Collaborate with educators to identify and implement innovative educational technology solutions that enhance learning experiences and student outcomes.
Stay current with emerging technologies and trends in education to make recommendations for adoption.
Budget and Resource Management:
Develop and manage the technology budget, allocating resources effectively and ensuring cost efficiency.
Negotiate contracts, procure technology equipment, and manage vendor relationships.
Secure additional funding through grants and federal programs.
Implement a replacement cycle for managing and replacing equipment.
Cybersecurity and Data Privacy:
Implement robust cybersecurity measures to protect sensitive student and district data.
Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations and policies.
Monitor the district-wide security plan that encompasses student safety, building security, and disaster recovery.
Oversee district-wide security initiatives and plan for future needs.
Implement systems to support and maintain data privacy initiatives and standards.
Staff Management:
Recruit, train, and manage a team of technology professionals.
Provide guidance and mentorship to staff, promoting professional growth and development.
Prepare, review, and revise job descriptions for the technology department.
Evaluate job performance of employees to ensure effectiveness.
Evaluate salaries and make recommendations to remain competitive with the public sector.
Stakeholder Engagement:
Collaborate with teachers, staff, students, parents, and the community to understand technology needs and concerns.
Communicate technology initiatives and progress to various stakeholders.
Participate in bond planning for technology and construction projects.
Policy, Reports, and Laws
Implement the policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rules, and local board policy around information management and technology.
Assist in the development of policies and procedures pertaining to the use of technology resources in an instructional setting (i.e., AUA, e-mail, filtering, etc.).
Ensure that all required reports are compiled, maintained, or filed.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise directors for network, software, security, desktop support and help desk.
