We are seeking a Chief Information Officer (CIO) to lead the Firm's Information and Support Services Department. The CIO is responsible for information technology and security, information governance, risk management, practice support, records, knowledge management and technology training across the Firm. This position is a key member of Firm leadership and works closely with the Executive Committee, practice group leaders and other key stakeholders to set priorities and to develop and implement strategies/programs in support of Firm goals. The CIO also leads the Firm’s Technology Committee. The position reports to the Chief Operating Officer and requires the individual to reside in California and be based in one of Nossaman's California offices (Los Angeles, Orange County, San Francisco or Sacramento).
The salary range for the position of Chief Information Officer at Nossaman is $265,000 to $325,000 annually. The successful candidate’s salary for this position is reasonably expected to be set within this range. However, actual compensation will depend on a variety of factors, including, without limitation, the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the Information Technology, Knowledge Management, Risk Management (including Records and Intake/Conflicts) and Practice Support functions Firm-wide.
- Keep the Firm competitive by capitalizing on innovations in technology to enhance client and employee experiences.
- Develop and manage a multi-year technology vision and a capital/operations budget for the Firm’s technology, including equipment, software, applications and systems.
- Recommend opportunities to provide better service to clients, perform work more efficiently or gain a competitive advantage through the use of technology.
- Ensure a 24/7 highly responsive environment and assure outstanding client service to internal and external users.
- Oversee the operation and maintenance of technology systems, voice and data networks, telephone systems and other related equipment/software in a manner that assures a minimum of operational interruptions.
- Serve as the Firm’s designated Information Security Officer, responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of Nossaman security policies.
- Lead information security audits and requests, from receipt of questionnaires to final remediation of all applicable findings.
- Ensure collaboration across departments to drive initiatives in support of firm and departmental strategic goals.
- Oversee a wide range of vendor relationships for capital assets and outsourced service providers, negotiate terms and manage effective usage of these resources.
- Develop and implement programs to increase the acceptance and use of technology in the practice of law.

- Travel, as needed, among offices to attend Firm events and meetings and to foster relationships with all attorneys and staff.
Experience & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in computer science, or equivalent experience in a related field, is required.
- 10+ years of experience managing technology and information resources in a law firm with multiple locations.
- Strong knowledge and proven experience managing an information security program. Candidates should have experience in reviewing and addressing security policies and design.
- Successful candidates should possess the ability to execute and maintain a formal business continuity plan.
- Ability to bring the benefits of technology to bear on solving business issues while also managing costs and risk.
- Skilled at identifying and evaluating new technological developments, reviewing their appropriateness for the Firm and being an advocate for change.
- Knowledge of legal practice is required and must be able to communicate and work effectively with lawyers in a client-service driven environment.
- Strong leadership skills and a proven ability to inspire, motivate, build consensus and execute are essential.
