Job Summary
UTEC’s CFO provides financial leadership for a $15M nonprofit organization that also provides job training in Social Enterprises. The position is responsible for all Accounting, Financial Planning and Analysis, Risk Management, and Business Partnership for the Executive team.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Manages UTEC’s Controller and the finance team of five finance professionals.
- Overall responsibility for accurate accounting (closing, A/P, Payroll, SE invoicing, Fixed Asset management, Collections), financial statement preparation, financial reporting, Budget preparation, forecasting, banking and audit relationships, and partnership activities with the CEO and other Executives.
- Tactical financial management of State and Federal Contracts with the finance team and the programming team.
- Organizational cash management
- Personal Support to the Development team crafting fundraising proposals and interface with large donors
- Management of tenant leases, and oversight of facilities activities from a financial perspective
- Advice and counsel to the Leadership team on tactical and strategic financial matters
- Development of financial models and financial analysis on an as needed basis
- Business Analysis support to UTEC’s mission driven Social Enterprises including mattress recycling, woodworking, and culinary businesses.
- Development and Management of finance team including creating goals, regular performance reviews, and development and execution of staff job skill development
- Compliance with all applicable state, federal, and accounting regulations
- Risk Management for the organization
- Participation in the Executive Leadership Team
- Work with the Board to further develop the finance committee
- Key External partnerships for banking, credit lines, and external auditors as well as with key funders
- Coach emerging leaders in areas of non-profit financial management
Required Skills/Abilities
- Experienced Financial leader with 15+ years of experience including the complexities of managing multi-program organizations from a financial perspective.
- Non- profit financial management experience including large foundation grants, federal and state contracts, and individual giving.
- Excellent accounting skills as demonstrated by applying theory to practical situations, and demonstrating successful audit results.
- Can develop a budget personally and work with others within the organization on establishing budgets and forecasts.
- Demonstrated ability to work with HR to develop salary planning guidelines, and collaborate on compliance areas that cross finance and HR.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks in a fast -paced work environment.
- Able to explain and work with an organization that has some leaders with limited financial skills.
- Personally Proficient in excel and word and presentation software.
- Commitment and ability to further agency-wide DEI goals across the organization and within the finance team.
Education and Experience
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Business, advanced degrees are a plus.
- 5-10 years experience in a Leadership Role.
- Experience in a complex nonprofit environment in both a hands-on capacity and a leadership capacity is preferred.
- For profit experience with both accounting and FP&A expertise combined with nonprofit experience would be highly valued.

Salary/Benefits: $120,000-$150,000 plus benefits, commensurate with experience. UTEC offers a competitive benefits package that starts with 4 weeks of vacation (3 standard for all new employees and a week of agency-wide closure between the Christmas and New Year holidays), 12 holidays, 10 sick days, 2 personal days, health, dental and vision insurance, life insurance, an annual cost of living increase, a 457B retirement plan and up to $4,000 per employee of professional development support. With time, benefits grow to include up to 6 weeks of vacation, 80% coverage of employee health and dental insurance costs and availability for a 3 week sabbatical.
