The Rhodes Student Health Center aspires to acquire knowledge that promotes wellness, helps prevent illness, and encourages responsibility for personal health so students may build a foundation to continue a healthy lifestyle throughout life.
The Certified Medical Assistant reports directly to the Director of Student Health and Wellness and supports the Director in creating a patient-focused, quality-care health center and comprehensive wellness program. In addition, they assist in the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of the medical or nursing providers and assist the Director with office administration duties and laboratory responsibilities.
Job Requirements:
High school diploma or GED is required.
Certified Nursing Assistant; or successful completion of a Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant course at an accredited institution or equivalent training; or a graduate of an accredited nursing school with a current LPN licensure by the State Board of Nursing
License and certification must be by the Tennessee State Board of Nursing and in good standing.
Three (3) years of CNA, CMA, or LPN experience within an outpatient medical clinic setting required.
Electronic Medical Record (EMR) experience required.
Current BLS, CPR, or AED certification required.
Current immunizations (Tdap, MMR, Meningococcal, Varicella, TB skin test, and Influenza) are required.
Demonstrated use of diversity, equity, and inclusion approaches to clinical care.
Job Responsibilities:
Support the Director of Student Health and Wellness in the clinical operations of the Health Center to deliver appropriate, high-quality healthcare treatment and preventive services.
Provide primary nursing services to those seeking treatment or preventive health care using accurate written and verbal skills and patient education.
Administer injections (vaccinations, allergies, and medications) for students and assist the nurse practitioner, physician, and registered nurse with appointments.
Perform CLIA-waived laboratory tests; blood draws, collect and prepare laboratory specimens for outside testing, and maintain all laboratory equipment and supplies.
Perform in office procedures under the direction of the Director or medical provider such as vital signs, administration of medication, breathing treatments, ear wash and wound care.
Responsible for knowledge of OSHA, CLIA, HIPAA, and FERPA compliance standards and regulations.
Assist with appointment scheduling with outside specialists, discharge students from the Health Center and follow-up with students via email or phone to check their condition or to inform them of laboratory or other testing results.
Communicate effectively with staff, students, parents, and off-campus medical personnel to provide follow-up care and support to students.
Assist with supply stock, center sanitation, data gathering for departmental reports, responding to campus emergencies as necessary, and maintaining client confidentiality.
Regular on-campus work is required in a high pace setting.
Provide administrative and technical support to the Student Health Center.
Assist with schedules for the nurse practitioner and registered nurse using appropriate protocols.
Perform general receptionist duties such as but not limited to greeting visitors, answering inquiries (in person and via phone), managing the waiting area, and retrieving and distributing mail from the mailroom.
Assist with health center patient information according to HIPAA and FERPA regulations and with completion of data entry, scanning of electronic medical records and storage.
Organize educational information for distribution in the Health Center and throughout the campus community.
Maintain office supply inventory.
Provide support in the processing of invoices.
Operate and maintain various office equipment, printers, copiers, fax machines, scanners, etc.
Assist with the implementation, submission, and compliance of student health forms.
Assist the Director in ensuring implementation and compliance with college-mandated insurance policies for student health.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director.
