Job Summary and QualificationsPOSITION SUMMARY: The Central Sterile Coordinator oversees and facilitates the daily operations and quality of the Central Sterile Department. Provides Central Sterile staff training, interdepartmental communication on CSS processes, and support surgery with equipment needs. Ensures CSS compliance with the regulatory standards and facility policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL CORE FUNCTIONS:
- Demonstrates knowledge and application of sterile technique, equipment and supplies needed for various surgical procedures.
- Communicates, interacts and participates in teamwork within our facility.
- Practices, endorses and provides customer service skills to patients, visitors, physicians and staff.
- Serves as the patient and family advocate with respect to the patients’ right to privacy by protecting confidential information.
- Actively seeks ways to control costs without compromising patient safety, quality of care or the services delivered.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the occurrence reporting system. Uses system to report potential patient safety issues.
- Follows established guidelines for reporting a significant medical error medical error or unanticipated outcome in the patient’s care which results in harm.
- Attends inservice presentations and completes all mandatory educations requirements.
- Uses Performance Improvement Plan to improve patient safety.
- Regular, Punctual and Dependable Attendance.
- Able to perform all duties as described for CSS Technician
- Checks equipment/instruments for proper operation according to procedure, and reports malfunctions and/or hazardous conditions of equipment to the appropriate person.
- Maintains daily record for sterilizers and maintains audit trail for QA.
- Tracks lost and damaged instruments and communicates with OR staff in reference to any impending problems.
- Assist with maintaining of department files of each employee, documenting continuing education, employee counseling and competency in clinical skills at least annually.
- Maintains monthly employee work and call schedule.
- High School Graduate/GED or equivalent work experience
- BLS Certification required
- Operating room scrub technician, Surgical Technician or Central Sterile Technician required
- Central Sterile or Operating Room experience required / at least 2 years preferred
- Extensive medical instrument/equipment knowledge preferred
