Position Overview: Reporting to the Deputy Chief Information Officer (Deputy CIO), the BRM for Research will serve as a single point of contact working to align functions of IT and Tarleton State University’s Research offices and operations. This key Business Relationship position involves identifying and recommending better business practices to produce strong program results and meaningful outcomes to ensure that IT is meeting the needs and goals of the university’s research mission.
Tarleton State University is classified as a Doctoral University: High Research Activity by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education, otherwise known as Carnegie R2. The university is strategically advancing to become a Carnegie R1 before 2030. This position will be critical to develop and support the technology requirements of our research mission.
Responsibilities:
Strategic Partnering & Strategy
- Advance business performance by coaching business unit customers and enabling them to articulate their functions (i.e., technology, people, etc.).
- Develops and maintains multi-year business capability roadmaps.
- Develops relationship plans and reports.
- Manages and develops the relationship between IT and internal and external partners.
- Partners with customers and IT operations and leadership to plan new joint initiatives, evaluate proposals, and determines priorities to ensure /portfolio management process to ensure effective, healthy, well-managed indicatives.
- Focuses on business value rather than solutions to develop ideas, digital awareness, risk assessments, business continuity, and business capability requirements.
- Advocates for an awareness and focus on business partner strategic plans.
- Engages as a project/program stakeholder, including evaluating project efforts, and progress against joint strategic plans and objectives.
- Addresses customer issues/concerns in an accurate and timely manner.
- Meets regularly with clients to understand the business needs and to suggest and explore opportunities for growth.
- Enhances and maintains knowledge of creative and innovative trends and digital advances as they relate to new opportunities and business needs.
Partnership and Relationship Management
- Leads as the strategic interface between the BRM’s function and business partner to stimulate, surface, and shape business demand and ensure that the potential business value from those assets and capabilities is captured, realized, optimized, and recognized.
- Develops a deep knowledge of the business partner’s business unit and builds positive relationship development, both horizontally and vertically.
- Educates business partners about processes, roles, and capabilities.
- Ensures project and initiative progress, including consistent and effective communication.
- Manages escalation and avoids risk.
- Establishes communication processes and channels across business functions.
- Optimizes business value through consultancy, business case development, financial awareness, and managing expectations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 6 years of related experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong communication skills, ability to listen, build rapport, and credibility as a strategic partner vertically within the business unit, as well as with leadership and functional teams.
- Strong problem-solving and conflict resolutions skills to achieve win-win outcomes at all levels.
- Strong leadership skills, ability to set expectations with business partners, influence and break down silos within an organization as well across organizations, and accept ownership.
- Solid understanding of Information Technology and finance assets and capabilities.
Key Competencies:
- Experience working at a research-oriented university or related organization.
- Knowledge of high-performance computing clusters and edge devices.
- Understanding of grant application and award process and procedure.
- Familiarity with data warehouses
- Knowledge of emerging trends in Research Technology
- Demonstrated record of innovative approaches to solving problems and advancing organizational mission.
Salary: Commensurate with experience.
Location: The Information Technology Services office is located at the Stephenville Campus. Work hours are Monday to Friday, 8 AM-5 PM, or as work requirements indicate. Remote work options are available after the successful completion of the training period.
