Dept: Employee Assistance Program
Reports to: Executive Vice President, EAP
Wage: $88,000/yr. plus 2% commission on new contracts, no earnings cap.
Type: Full-Time/40 hours per week, Exempt
Location: Seattle, WA; hybrid-optional (WA residency required)
Note: Hybrid-optional positions can be performed by combining telecommuting with on-site work. If choosing to work remotely, a private workspace & reliable internet are required.

For over 130 years, Wellspring Family Services has worked to end family homelessness by making it easy for families and employees in crisis to access the services they need to regain stability. A non-profit, multi-service agency, Wellspring serves children, youth, and families primarily in King, Pierce, and Snohomish Counties.
Wellspring has four primary programs. The Housing Services division provides eviction prevention and rehousing services to vulnerable populations in three counties. The Early Learning Center delivers trauma-informed early childhood education to children, ages 1 to 5, who have experienced homelessness. The Family Store supplies clothing, toiletries, toys, diapers, and baby equipment to low-income families so they can better afford rent and other basic needs. Our Employee Assistance Program connects employees with the resources they need to address crises, retain housing, and remain employed.

About our Employee Assistance Program:
Wellspring Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is a social enterprise of Wellspring Family Services. Employees routinely face personal crises that affect their professional lives. Wellspring’s Employee Assistance Program is here to help. We connect employees with mental health services, childcare resources, legal help, financial counseling, elder-care services, and an array of other services that help them address crises quickly. For over 40 years, Wellspring EAP has been serving organizations by providing high touch, innovative services and solutions that support personal, team, and workplace wellbeing.
Position Purpose:
The Business Development Manager is responsible for leading EAP and ESP business growth and market expansion, driving our sales performance, developing and maintaining strong relationships with key customers.
Essential Functions:
- Strategic Planning and Execution
- Develop and implement growth strategies for the achievement of revenue goals.
- Identify and approach potential clients and business partners for new business opportunities.
- Collaborate with the other members on the Business Development team on proposals, ensuring they are professionally produced and delivered within customer defined requirements and timeframes.
- Customer Relationship Management
- Actively manage existing relationships with insurance brokers and human resource professionals through networking and participation in industry events.
- Maintain relationships with benefit consultants, gathering qualitative feedback about services, trends and client needs and identifying potential EAP & ESP sales.
- Oversee coordination and hosting of informational and relationship building events with brokers.
- Track sales opportunities and identify relationships that are most beneficial to grow EAP & ESP programs.
- Sales Reporting and Forecasting
- Contribute to ongoing development of Wellspring’s CRM (Salesforce) system.
- Regularly review and report on sales performance of the team.
- Use sales data to accurately forecast future sales and form a strategy for growth.
- Oversee and maintain internal sales procedures.
- Develop and maintain prospect list, in collaboration with Business Development support role(s).
- Team Leadership and Management:
- Directly supervise (2) Business Development roles, including training, setting performance standards, day-to-day coaching & performance management, plus time & attendance supervision.
- Conduct regular sales meetings to discuss targets, strategies and opportunities.
- Work closely with other department leaders to ensure a unified approach to business growth.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Respond to RFPs, RFIs, and other requests from brokers and employers as requested.
- Act as representative of the organization in all respects, with a particular responsibility to adhere to ethical standards, employment policies and communications guidelines as failure to do so creates serious legal liability for the agency.
- Support and act in a manner consistent with Wellspring’s values.
- Additional tasks and projects may be assigned as needed.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Sales, Business Administration, Marketing or a related field or five years’ experience in direct sales.
- Minimum 4 years’ experience in sales or Business Development.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a supervisor/manager role.
- Practical and current knowledge of CRM applications and experience with Salesforce preferred.
- Knowledge of employee benefit and/or insurance brokerage environment preferred.
- Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written, coupled with excellent listening skills leading to outstanding customer relationship-building skills, whether by phone, email, video, or in person.
- Advanced editing/formatting and general usage skills using Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) plus Adobe and other desktop publishing tools.
- Able to prepare accurate, clear and concise presentations that are targeted to the audience, setting the appropriate tone and context to engage the audience and clearly articulates key messages(s).
- Demonstrated project management skills including advanced organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Highly developed awareness of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility with evolved ability to practice appropriate, relevant and thoughtful strategies for working with diverse populations.
- Exceptionally committed to operating with integrity, demonstrating ethical behavior and methods.
- Able to thrive in a rapidly evolving environment and manage effectively through ambiguity and change.
- Able to work within tight deadlines and under pressure.
- Knowledge of security & client confidentiality standards and the ability to comply with agency policies, protocols and applicable regulations related to client and company information.
Physical & Mental Requirements:
- Washington State resident upon start.
- Employee must possess reliable transportation, as regular travel will be required.
- If an employee chooses to work remotely, this position requires a private workspace with reliable internet.
- Regular and predictable attendance.
- The ability to understand, express and exchange complex ideas in a fast-paced environment.
- The ability to communicate detailed or important information to clients and/or co-workers through written documents and emails and through verbal means over the telephone, using virtual meeting platforms, and in person.
- The ability to use a computer for long periods of time. Adaptive accommodations may be available as needed.
- A moderate amount of moving around in a standard office environment may be needed.
