POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Development Manager is a full-time, exempt (salaried) position responsible for all aspects of Fund Development for The Arc of King County. This position supervises the Development Assistant and leads a 2-person team to successfully implement the annual fundraising plan and support the capital campaign.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Responsible for leading the strategy, design, implementation, and management of all activities of a comprehensive annual fundraising plan that includes annual giving, special events, major donor cultivation, foundation, and corporate giving.

Responsible for supervising and training the Development Assistant

Responsible for overseeing grants administration process for the agency in coordination with program directors. Including and not limited to research, writing, reporting, and record keeping. The position oversees and coordinates with contract grant writer to strategize, identify, and pursue grant opportunities. This collaborative partnership entails close communication, attention to details and deadlines, and mutual support to effectively maximize funding potential for the organization.

Acts as a team member and partner on The Arc's Agency Leadership Team, which is responsible for agency-wide oversight, strategy, and planning. 

Responsible for partnering with Agency Leadership Team in oversight of grant administration, including coordinating, tracking, and monitoring tasks associated with applications and reporting duties.

Responsible for preparing and managing the annual fund development budget, including preparing regular progress reports.

Will be an active member on the Capital Campaign planning team.

Responsible for supporting the work of the Board of Trustees - Development Committee

Responsible for stewardship and cultivation of donors, including major donors, as well as donor retention and prospecting activities.

Responsible for partnering with Agency Leadership Team in representing The Arc of King County publicly related to its impact and mission.

Responsible for partnering with Agency Leadership Team to identify and develop client stories and examples of impact for use in public marketing of the organization. Focusing on telling The Arc’s story, building donor relations, promoting opportunities, and other communications in support of fund development

Responsible for creation and distribution of marketing materials related to fund development, including but not limited to agency annual report, social media, campaign and appeal collateral, and email newsletters.

Responsible for partnering with Agency Leadership Team, The Arc of the US, and The Arc of Washington to ensure brand compliance.

Responsible for partnering with Agency Leadership Team in managing agency media, including website and social media platforms, mass email, and bulk mailing.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Preferred Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, communications, or related field. Relevant experience may substitute for education.


Minimum Qualifications

  • 3+ years of development experience in non-profit and proven experience in fund development, preferably within the nonprofit sector

  • Strong knowledge of fundraising principles, techniques, and best practices

  • Creative, enthusiastic development professional with a demonstrated commitment to serving and empowering people of all abilities, cultures, and backgrounds

  • Self-starter with demonstrated ability to build on current development efforts and to create and manage development plans, budgets, and timelines.

  • Proven experience dealing with marketing and public relations.

  • Experience building and managing partnerships with corporations.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, and Canva applications and platforms

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Strong planning and organizational skills

  • Database experience that includes entering and editing information; editing templates; producing mailing selections and generating reports. Experience with Salesforce a plus

  • Demonstrated commitment to empowerment of individuals with disabilities and their families.

OR a combination of education, experience, and measurable performance that demonstrates the capability to perform the duties of this position.

PHYSICAL AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.

  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination or an approved accommodation request is required prior to starting work.

  • Ability to work in an open office environment with or without accommodation.

  • Ability to use phone, email, and internet with ease.

  • Ability to travel anywhere in King County as needed (if driving, must have a WA driver’s license and car insurance; if not driving, ability to be punctual when traveling anywhere in King County)

  • Ability to transport Development materials and supplies.

  • Work hours typically occur between 8:30-4:30 Monday-Friday with some flexibility.

  • Requires some evening and weekend work with advanced notice/planning.

HOURS/SALARY/BENEFITS

  • This is a full time supervisory exempt position.

  • This position is eligible for The Arc’s employee benefits package which includes medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(K), EAP, Orca card, paid holidays, paid personal leave, and more.

  • Initially this position will be on-site, but a hybrid arrangement is possible.

  • Annual Salary Range: $70,000-$80,000
