Job description

Job Description
At Aera, we're accelerating our more than 25-year journey by focusing on what we do best: safely delivering the reliable and affordable energy that Californians depend on today and will need for years to come.
As part of our shared vision for California's energy future, we're leading the way in the next generation of energy production focusing on the coexistence of oil and gas with the deployment of renewable energy to reduce emissions, support local economies and create jobs. Through delivering the oil and gas people need today and investing in lower carbon energy production, we are helping meet the state's transition to carbon neutrality while providing the energy Californians need to power their daily lives.
We are seeking two highly motivated and experienced Business Development Advisors to join our Commercial Strategy and Business Development team. These crucial roles will identify and develop business opportunities; one focusing on Carbon Sequestration Services and Direct Air Capture projects and the second looking in the Power and Renewable Energy sector within the CAISO market. These positions offer a unique opportunity to contribute to the advancement of clean energy technology and environmental sustainability. The successful candidates will be responsible for originating, negotiating, and executing commercial agreements, as well as fostering key partnerships to expand both our Sequestration Services and DAC portfolio and our Energy as a Service portfolio respectively.
What you will be doing:
  • Initiate and identify origination prospects and implement outreach strategy across low carbon solution technologies under development, with a focus on executing Sequestration-As-A-Service or Energy-As-A-Service agreements.
  • Negotiation and Contracting: Lead negotiations, finalize terms, and secure agreements or contracts with commercial partners, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and company objectives.
  • Proposal Development: Create compelling proposals and presentations outlining the benefits and feasibility of carbon sequestration solutions for prospective clients.
  • Solution Tailoring: Collaborate with technical experts to customize carbon sequestration solutions that align with clients' sustainability goals and business strategies.
  • Customer Engagement: Initiate and maintain relationships with businesses interested in reducing their carbon emissions, understanding their needs and objectives. Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, maintaining strong relationships and providing ongoing support to ensure successful implementation and satisfaction.
  • Market Analysis: Conduct thorough market research to identify potential commercial partners interested in carbon sequestration solutions.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders (e.g., finance, engineering, project management) and contribute meaningfully to the corporate decision-making process
  • Industry Knowledge and Trends: Stay updated on industry trends, advancements in carbon sequestration technologies, and regulatory changes to inform strategies and offerings.

Required Skills
What you need to be successful:
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., engineering, business, environmental sciences). An advanced degree (MBA, MSc) is preferred.
  • Proven experience in Business Development, sales, or customer origination within the environmental or sustainability sector, preferably in carbon sequestration or related fields.
  • Strong understanding of renewable energy and battery storage projects and their applications in commercial settings.
  • Experience with project development and working with cross-functional teams is a plus.
  • In-depth knowledge of the California energy market and renewable energy policies
  • Exceptional negotiation, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Strong background in financial modeling and analysis
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills and ability to effectively convey complex concepts to diverse stakeholders, including potential investors.
  • Creative thinker with the ability to seek innovative solutions to complex technical/business problems.
  • Self-driven, goal-oriented, and highly adaptable in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Commitment to sustainability and a passion for driving positive environmental impact through business initiatives.

Aera is looking for candidates who want to be a part of something bigger than themselves, authentic individuals who believe in having a career that makes a meaningful impact. This role presents an exciting opportunity to lead the charge in fostering partnerships that facilitate the reduction of carbon emissions, contributing significantly to global sustainability efforts.
We are looking for the brightest minds and boldest spirits; people with a passion for learning, growing, and continuously improving and innovating. We want individuals who live our values every day and will help us power great todays and better tomorrows.
