The Business Analyst position will be a key member of the DPI R&D Industry team and is responsible for analyzing information, formulating, and testing hypotheses, developing, and communicating recommendations. You'll also present results to R&D management and implement recommendations in collaboration with team members. The R&D Team is comprised of the DPI Research Director, R&D Scientists and Science Team Directors, Sector Leaders and the R&D Industry Team which includes Relationship Managers who cultivate and manage industry partnership. This position requires interacting with all these colleagues to connect DPI research efforts with industry needs and supporting the R&D Team in the Consulting projects with customers.
- Provide insights, conduct market research, and analyze strategic business and R&D trends in an existing or potential new industry partner.
- Conduct market and business intelligence research on select industry sectors working with and supporting efforts of the R&D Industry Team and Sector Lead(s).
- Support the R&D Industry Team for business development and DPI-related R&D activities with prospective industry partners.
- Combine strong analytical skills, critical thinking, and data analysis to help the team develop strategic priorities and outreach to industry and other external partners.
- Engage with and challenge leadership to provide commercial and innovative perspectives on the issues, challenges and opportunities facing our clients.
- Work with DPI academic partners to leverage expertise and support customer proposals.
- Support planning and hosting of Workshops, Roundtables and other such events hosted by the R&D Industry Team.
- In written and slide presentation format, communicate complex concepts into a crisp, clear, concise client-ready narratives, using appropriate analytics and visualization tools.
- Perform other related duties and participate in special projects.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of a bachelor's degree in a DPI science team area or closely related area, MBA is preferred.
- Strong business research analyst skills.
- Strong project management skills.
- Experience with technology commercialization strongly preferred.
- Strong commercial acumen, able to connect client business issues with DPI research.
- Experience in interacting with business leaders and offering constructive and differentiating perspectives.
- Proven ability to deliver succinct and structured oral and written communications.
- Familiarity with academic research strongly preferred, and ability to recognize and identify intersections between industry needs and a broad research and science portfolio.
- Experience working with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds, across institutions and disciplines.
- Familiar with the Chicago tech industry network preferred.
