SUMMARY:
The Billing Assistant role at Shift Billing, Inc. is an entry-level, part-time position. The Billing Assistants primary responsibilities are to directly support the Director of Billing with all administrative tasks necessary to effectively oversee all billing operations, including, but not limited to, cash payment tracking, treatment authorization tracking and auditing, communication of issues pertaining to each, data input for key billing performance reports, initial claim follow up, and other administrative tasks as may be necessary.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Upcoming payments: Check various payment portals for upcoming payments for each facility and enter them into the appropriate spreadsheet.
- Utilization Review Tracker: Check the UR tracker for each facility. Make sure authorizations are up to date for every client. Report any missing authorization and when their auth was last updated.
- Occupancy Report: Check the Occupancy report (OR) for any missed billings by going through each day that hasn’t been marked for each client and check if they have hours.
- Claims Follow-Up: Ensure all claims billed from the prior week have been received by the insurance companies. Gather all pertinent claims information such as claim number and how long to allow for the claim to process.
- Medical records: Gather medical records that need to be sent in as directed by your supervisor. Send to the appropriate place either by physical mail or through fax/email.
- Patient Insurance Invoices: Create the monthly patient invoices for any due Deductibles, Copays, and Coinsurances as required by the health insurance companies.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- A min of a high school diploma or GED.
- One to two years related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental/insurance company regulations. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, staff members, clients, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Must possess the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, percentages, and volume. Must possess the ability to apply concepts of basic mathematics.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
CERTIFICATE, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Any occupational license required by law to perform independent medical billing.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Must possess the ability to use personal computer and standard business and clinical software.

- All new staff are required to participate in Shift Billing Recovery sponsored (paid) trainings during designated office hours, including but not limited to:
- Ethics training, including but not limited to transference, HIPAA compliance, boundaries, congruency, self-care, etc.
- Professionalism
- All other company trainings required by management
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
