Schedule is Sunday through Thursday on the Older Adult Unit

Purpose: The Behavioral Health Therapist II will provide advanced clinical services in coordination with the multi-disciplinary team consistent with Caron’s standards of care. In the absence of the Clinical Supervisors, will oversee the leadership and supervision of the unit.  Provide clinical supervision to students and interns to facilitate development of clinical competency and ethical practice.  The Behavioral Health Therapist II is expected to carry out the philosophy of the Caron in his/her daily work routine and to act as a catalyst in the therapeutic process of the patient’s treatment episode.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Oversee coordination of a patient’s care while in residential services, including the integration of family sessions, school expectations, communication with referral sources, assessment of patient progress and communication to the clinical team regarding special treatment needs and procedures.  
  2. Complete initial patient assessments such as psychosocial assessment, gathering patient goals and completing family assessments.  
  3. Utilize the multi-disciplinary treatment team to determine appropriate level of care and to identify Behavioral Health needs that can be treated in Caron’s continuum as well as those that require external placement. 
  4. Facilitate group therapy and individual counseling. 
  5.  Work with the Family Therapist to assess family dynamics and recommend the family education program and ongoing family therapy. This may include individual family therapy as needed.
  6. Develop a comprehensive continuing care plan that includes input from the clinical referents, internal referents, multi-disciplinary treatment teams, family, and patient.  
  7. Work within the ethical constraints of the certified addiction counselor and other professional or organizational ethical standards as they apply to the position. 
  8. Document treatment plans, progress notes, treatment plan updates, case consultations, telephone calls and discharge summaries in the patient electronic health record in accordance with Caron policies and procedures. 
  9. Complete necessary utilization review information. 

Behavioral Health Therapist II duties include:

  1. Initiate and attend multi-disciplinary team meetings, case reviews, conflict resolutions, family conferences, consultations, etc., as needed to facilitate achievement of programmatic and individual goals consistent with recovery.
  2. In the absence of clinical supervisor/director oversee the leadership and supervision of the unit.
  3. May be asked to partner with and support the alumni department.

  1. Must be able to work extended hours and travel as needed
  2. Must be able to deliver presentations that may be both multiple times and for lengthy time periods
  3. Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs.
  4. Must be able to move throughout Caron facilities.
  5. Must be able to ascend and descend stairs.
  6. This is a safety sensitive position.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Master’s Degree level in social work, marriage and family therapy, mental health counseling, or related Behavioral Health services. 
  2. A minimum of 6 months working in the Behavioral Health field   
  3. Preferred Specialty Training (i.e., MI, DBT, MBSR, CPT, CBT, EMDR, Trauma and Rainbow Advocacy) 
  4. Experience in lifespan developmental issues for their respective populations 
  5. Experience in facilitating group therapy   
  6. If in recovery, two years of uninterrupted sobriety   

Behavioral Health Therapist II

  1. Master’s degree or doctoral degree in social work, marriage and family therapy, mental health counseling, clinical psychology or related Behavioral Health services degree which included an advanced generalist or clinical examination for state licensure or certified by a state to independently practice.
  2. Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience that demonstrates possession of advanced clinical practice skills and judgment.
  3. Must demonstrate specialization in one or more practice areas to include certification or other post-masters training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship or equivalent supervised professional experience in a specialty.
  4. Specialty Trainings: (i.e: MI, CBT, DBT, ACT, MBSR, CPT, EMDR, Trauma and Rainbow Advocacy)
  5. Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience in facilitating group therapy (i.e: Trauma, Experiential, Gender, Relapse Prevention, Process)
  6. Demonstrated leadership experience. (i.e.: Supervision of interns, co-facilitate group supervision, assist with training of new staff, reach out to potential admissions, managing tracking sheet)
  7. Certification in addiction counseling preferred.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

Licensure. Persons hired for Behavioral Health Therapist I must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice at the master's degree level in social work, marriage and family therapy, mental health counseling, or related Behavioral Health services. 

(1) Exception. Caron may waive the licensure or certification requirement for persons who are otherwise qualified, pending completion of state prerequisites for licensure/certification examinations. This exception only applies at the Behavioral Health Therapist I level. At the time of appointment, the supervisor or clinical director will provide the unlicensed/uncertified clinician with the written requirements for licensure or certification, including the time by which the license or certification must be obtained and the consequences for not becoming licensed or certified by the deadline of 3 years from date of appointment.           

(2) May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the Caron qualifications for this position (only applicable to current Caron employees who are in this position and meet the criteria). 

 

Behavioral Health Therapist II

Clinicians must be licensed or certified by a state at the advanced practice level to independently practice at the master’s degree level and they must be able to provide supervision for licensure.
