Job Summary:
The Authorization Specialist I supports the Revenue Cycle Management team by verifying initial and ongoing payer authorization and eligibility of home health services. The specialist will request, follow up and secure prior authorizations prior to services being performed. The specialist must complete the functions of this role in a timely and accurate manner, as a patient’s treatment and satisfaction are impacted.
Responsibilities:
- Verifies insurance eligibility and authorization of current and potential home health clients in an accurate and timely manner.
- Completes authorizations and referrals for services, notifies customers of deductibles/co-insurance due.
- Proactively manages and maintains all outstanding authorization accounts to increase billing of clean claims.
- Contacts customers when needing to obtain additional information for incomplete authorizations.
- Assist authorization Lead with Monthly Private Insurance eligibility checks.
- Enters insurance authorization and eligibility information into systems.
Required Education and Experience
- Successful completion of high school or GED
- Minimum typing WPM 40+
- 1 year office experience and or work history
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft systems (i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook, etc)
- Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication (both written and verbal) skills, and good phone etiquette.
- Ability to work under stress with interruptions and deadlines.
- Ability to follow complex instructions.
- High-energy and detail oriented.
Additional Desired Qualifications
- Have knowledge of insurance carrier billing requirements.
- Home Health and or Hospice experience
