The Ares Legal & Compliance Department oversees and manages Ares' global Legal, Regulatory and Compliance functions and programs. Under the leadership of the Global Chief Compliance Officer, the Compliance and Regulatory functions are comprised of teams that operate collaboratively with a global focus, including Regulatory, which oversees all global regulatory matters including the Advisers Act, Investment Company Act and FINRA; European and Asia Pacific Compliance, which oversees region-specific compliance and regulatory matters; Corporate Compliance, which administers global policies and central compliance and oversight functions; and Financial Crimes, which oversees Ares' adherence to Financial Crimes-related rules and regulations.
Ares is seeking a knowledgeable, highly organized and proactive Associate to join our Compliance team focused on the Investor Know Your Customer ("KYC") Process of the Anti-Money Laundering ("AML") Program. This individual will be responsible for facilitating investor onboarding and screening processes throughout the KYC process.
Primary Functions And Responsibilities
The Associate will play a significant role in execution and supervision of the Investor KYC Process in line with AML-CTF Program requirements, inclusive of jurisdictional requirements and third-party fund administrator guidelines. The Associate will be primarily responsible for review and analysis of investor KYC documentation and screening results, with additional involvement in investor KYC remediation in accordance with relevant jurisdictional requirements.
Specific responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Directly liaise with investors to advise on KYC/CDD requirements and collect all relevant onboarding documentation and information in accordance with the Program
- Engage with Investor Relations and Relationship Management personnel, external fund counsel and fund administrators to provide accurate and timely KYC status updates on investors participating in fund closings
- Provide assistance with KYC refresh reviews and remediation efforts for aged open matters
- Develop, maintain and execute consistent KYC reporting metrics
- Other responsibilities consistent with the areas of focus for the AML programs
- Support and assist with special projects and ad hoc requests/tasks as required
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree is required, with strong academic achievement
- Advanced Degree a plus
Experience Required:
- 3-5 years of relevant financial services compliance experience; previous AML-CTF responsibilities a plus
- Understanding of Anti-Money Laundering documentation requirements in accordance with relevant legislation and regulations in the United States; international exposure considered a plus
- Knowledge of complex corporate entity types, and the formation, constitutional, management/control and ownership documents of each and the information contained within them
- Familiarity with SEC (US), FCA (UK), CSSF (Lux) and CIMA (Cayman Islands) regulatory reviews and interpretation of regulations
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Visio, Project, PowerPoint)

The anticipated base salary range for this position is listed below. Total compensation may also include a discretionary performance-based bonus. Note, the range takes into account a broad spectrum of qualifications, including, but not limited to, years of relevant work experience, education, and other relevant qualifications specific to the role.
$100,000 - $115,000
